86 Iroc 305 TPI Over Heating HELP!!!
Hey guys, need some serious help. Besides my ticky lifter, my car has started to run dangerously hot after driving for about 15-20 minutes. I've been having to turn the air on in the car to expel hot air from the car in order for the temp to come down. Sometimes, even pull over to let it cool. All fluids are topped off, no leaks that i can find and the car doesn't use no coolant. Sooo now I'm stumped as to why she'd be running so hot. It's to the point where I don't want to take her out anymore out of this fear. I checked and the fan does come on too, so at this point I'm lost. Anybody have similar issues or any knowledge of the problem? As far as I can see everything in the car is original, 305 stock tpi engine, no mods. Could it be time for a brand new engine altogether??

Fan definitely comes on. I actually just learned that the thermostat was taken out of the car cuz it robbed power.

However a lack of a t-stat almost always results in a car running cold and never reaching operating temperature, so step one, install proper t-stat and replace coolant with a 50/50 mix. See what happens after that and post your results, chances are there is some reason this engine is running so hot, and the stat was removed in an effort to hide the real issue... I'd recommend pressure testing you cooling system, if it holds pressure replace your rad cap and go from there. If this is a bone stock engine with stock everything working properly it should never over heat.

Hey guys after some garage time and debate, I've decided to replace the entire radiator cuz it looks original and the waterpump which seems questionable. Did notice that when the car was last started that the fluid in the radiator was NOT moving. I figure might as well go ahead and get some new money in there anyways, can't hurt. Planning on putting it all together next weekend and going from there. Will update the details after the installation. Thanks everyone!
