Preformance Problem
Hey everyone, so here's the deal: I have a 305 bored .40 ( new flat top pistions k&B) with 416 heads polished on the exhaust side, a torquer intake, a comp cam cl12-364-4 cam and lifter set, and a 600 holley (4150). The engine seems to be strong, but it won't pull. I just got beat by a stock mustang. It was like I was driving a V6 car. I had someone check the timing and the carb (he races chevy engines) and evidently it was fine, but yet it preforms like a V6...Everything I mentioned about it is new parts, the only thing that was used was the intake. I am confused as to why it won't preform. It won't even spin the tired from a stop...it has a hesitation too. Its extremely frustrating. Maybe its the carb? Maybe the cam needs degreed? I don't know what to think anymore....
On a side note, I just had the transmission rebuilt.
A side from its lack of power the engine runs fine around town, no skipping, sputter, etc. I did notice the other day when I shut off it made a hollow bubbling noise in the exhaust?...kinda like someone put a flame out. It didn't pop or made a loud noise...it was kinda muffled.

Re: Preformance Problem
305
torquer intake
600 holley (4150)
12-364-4
Basically, it's just not enough motor. Prolly not bad for just driving around, prolly has good pep and pickup from a stop, for a 305... but in this day and time, good for a 305 isn't going to cut it.
Your gears probably aren't doing you any favors either.
I notice you didn't mention the exhaust at all. That tends to be a major bottleneck.

Re: Preformance Problem
FlowTech headers 2.5 inch collectors, with 2.5 in pipe all the way back...and I have a flowmaster 80 series muffler. The Mustang was a mid 90's model. I would think I could keep up with something with that kind of power, considering my car isn't stock, but I don't know. the carb is a 4160...not the 4150...The performance is extremely disappointing...
