Looking for input on a possible project purchase.
Not sure if this is the correct placement for this thread but this is the closest fit for the info I am looking for.
I stumbled on a 91 Camaro RS for sale. (pictures below)
I am looking for input on - Is it worth it? Give me your opinions on whether or not this is a fair buy.
Price written on window shows 1500/obo
Its a 5-speed car - still unknown engine (owner wasn't around) but it does sport a dual exhaust so I am assuming for now thats its the 5.0
Owner's daughter-in-law says it has a problem where it shuts down while driving. Then it will start up again - unknown at this time if it has to sit for a while before restarting? (ign. control module????)
She says its the "theft sensor" I'm not so sure about that =)
Most of the clearcoat is gone from the surfaces that have gotten the most sun.
The only metal damage is on on fender (pictured)
Front bumper cover is effed (cracked in at least three places.
Missing one body skirt piece (is that what its called??) on driver rear
Rust spots on lip of rear quarters and quarter sized spots on each side of windshield pillar.
Interior is complete and other than being filthy dirty is in decent shape.
Headliner fabric is gone - foam is still there.
Please see attached photos and give me your opinions.
My main question is: Is it worth giving this car the love that it needs?
If I got for - lets say - a thousand: Would I have enough room once I do some work to flip this thing after having fun for a year or so?
Or should I just wait for a 5.7 car to come along?
I have always been a fan of TBI because I have excellent luck with reliability with it.
In fact I had a 90 Chev 1500 Reg Cab and raced a guy with a 87 IROC TPI 305 and kept right in with him.
I guess my question would be: Are TBI cars selling very well?
Sorry for the long post I am just trying to lay out what I know so far so you guys can tell me what you think.
Oh and this is my first post here - I am from Casey, l Illinois - Near Terre Haute.
I had a 85 Z28 about 15 years ago. changed motors in it then sold it after I couldn't get it right.
Hoping to try again!!!
Edit: Tires and wheels are 14"
Not sure why someone would do this but I would definitely have to find something that makes sense

Car is going to need a lot of work you might want to try paying around $800 for it. The only thing that helps this car is that it an 5 speed.

If it is a V8 I'd offer $1200. Otherwise It's hardly worth $1000.

Thanks for the input fellas.
I was thinking of offering 800 for it.
Not sure if I would go over 1000 or not...
Maybe 1200 I guess.

Re: Looking for input on a possible project purchase.
Been trying to track down the owner who never seems to be home.
Talked to the step daughter who told me about the "theft sensor" needing replaced but she also told me tonight that when its warm they have to spray ether to get it started.
Sounds like Icm and vapor lock to me.
She also told me they are motivated to sell since buying another car and willing to deal.
I think I am going to offer 800 and thinking of being willing to go up to 1000
Thanks for all the input folks. Sound like it could be ok price for the car?

Stand there with $800 in 50s and 100s and make the offer. Had the money to the girl if they have the title. The lower nose portion is a 2 year only so take care of that part. If you plan to go nuts and flog it to death with a build up go for it.
