New MAF and Relay. Odd problems.

Also posted in the TPI section.

Replaced the MAF ( with a new one since the Bosh reman ones I kept getting were defective ) and Burn-off relay. Now, when I start the car, it will sound like its going to stall IMMEDIATELY and then even itself out right away. Never did this before. Also, the car stalls immediately and dies with the MAF unplugged which it didn't do even with the defective MAFs and old relay.

It drives fine, ( aside from the RPMs dropping to idle levels if I coast at anything under 25mph ) but this issue is really irking me. TPS is at .53 volts idle and 4.2 at WOT.

No codes are being thrown. At a complete loss here.

Initially the car was slowly showing symptoms of a bad MAF sensor. It would start with a SES light and run very rough. It would start and run fine after shutting it down for about 10 seconds. When driving, occasionally the car would stutter as if the throttle was being let off and re-applied rapidly and the RPMs would jump around. I checked the codes and it was a code 34. I cleaned the old MAF with maf cleaner and the symptoms went away completely and immediately afterward and I noticed improved throttle response. Symptoms returned about a week later. Again, I cleaned the MAF and same thing, symptoms returned a week after for the 2nd time.

So I tried 2 reman MAFs from autozone and the car didn't even idle properly with them installed ( I unplugged them with the car still on and it immediately stabilized and idled fine. Got another reman MAF from Advance Auto parts and it idled and ran fine except for 1 stutter on the way home. Cleaned the new MAF and all was good for a couple weeks and then it started stuttering horribly. Returned it and got a brand new MAF + relay for the hell of it. Now I have the above problem. What the actual ****?

Re: New MAF and Relay. Odd problems.

Update : Whatever relay is located near the air filter seems to be causing the issue. I was outside fiddling with the car and replacing relays. Well I kind of forgot to plug that relay back in and the car fired up and drove around my neighborhood great. Heavy acceleration, coasting, all was good. The radiator fans still kick on too when I flip the ignition, just as they always have.

Well, I plug this relay back in and poof, car starts like I described in the Previous post. So I take the relay out and put the brand new one. The car didn't even have time for the guages to come down and read the RPMs before it died. ( digi dash. Tach goes to max and speedo reads 188mph/kmh when the car is first turned on. )

So I take the relay completely out ( which I'm assuming is for the radiator fans ) and it starts up like crap again....ok wtf. I plug the old relay back in and it starts fine.

This car makes no sense. Its like the car is just screwing with me because it knows I'm trying to get rid of it so I can get a 4th gen LS1 T/A.
