HP Issue i've had for a while now... Help?

Alright. So I have a 1991 Camaro RS, its a 305 carb'd. Originally TBI. Since I got the car a few years ago, I haven't really done much to it. Anyway, when started up in the mornings and left to idle down, when I get in and stomp the gas, the car has some decent power. After a run to the store and to a friends house or any few little trips in a row, i try to hit the gas and i hear a faint ticking with hardly any HP trying to push the car any faster (around 50-60 mph).

So what would cause that? Am I leaving anything else out that needs to be known? I need help lol

Edit:The ticking sounds like a belt or chain slipping, idk, it's really hard to describe.

Could be anything from an exhaust leak to a bad timing or ignition component. With the info provided, anyone that answers is basically throwing a rock into a pond and hoping it hits a fish.

This is a really long shot, but could it be that your vacuum advance is routed to ported vacuum through a thermal vacuum switch? I'm assuming you're running a distributor with vacuum advance, and if so, the hose to the distributor's vacuum-advance should be running directly to intake manifold vacuum, and absolutely nothing else. Not ported vacuum, especially not on an LO3. I know, I converted my old '91 RS LO3 / auto from TBI to Q-Jet / HEI just weeks before parting it out. Part of the problem I had when it was TBI was that it always went into limp-home mode due to detonation, probably carbon deposits in the combustion chambers. Had to disconnect the battery for 30 seconds to get normal driveability back. But after converting, the power and driveability both suffered dramatically compared to TBI working as intended. When it was TBI, I did try replacing the timing chain, and I regret that. I should have bought a 3-keyway timing set and installed it with the cam 4 degrees late. The new chain didn't help low-end anything, even after re-setting the timing, but really hurt the upper-RPM dramatically.
