Heater core Bypass---Quick connect?

Hi guys,

So this spring I am going to bypass my heater core in my 91 TA. Passenger side carpet seems like it is wet a lot. I don't think its the T-tops leaking but I could be wrong. Wanting to bypass the heater core to see if that is what is leaking...which would explain the loss of coolant in my radiator over a few months.

So, when I disconnect both heater hoses from the intake and output for the heater core, what will be best to connect them to ensure optimal peace of mind? Is there a certain size quick connect that I should use? I assume metal is going to be better than plastic?

....I just want dry carpet

Hi LoganKello ,

As long as you have been using 50/50 antifreeze instead of pure water , this one is really easy to diagnose . Rub your hand across the wet carpet a few times and then feel your fingers . Got a wet sticky gummy kinda gross feeling to the dampness , well then it's coolant . If it just feels damp , with no creepy feels like somethings soaking into your skin feeling , it's likely water . It's kinda like that same feeling ya get when you get brake fluid on your hands , you can tell it from pure water right away ....

OOps , forgot to answer the actual question .... Most times I've seen heater cores looped out they just used an appropriatly sized plumbing elbow of the metal variety , one that had one side somewhat larger than the other to make up for the difference in hose sizes .
