305 (L03) - scrap or sell?

Hey all, just a quick question - Long story short, I'm planning to pull the L03 out of my project (It has 3 bad cylinders). I'm planning to keep the accessories and the TBI - basically just getting rid of the longblock. Just curious if I can actually get any money at all for any of it, or am I better off just having scrappers pick it up? Thanks!

nah, don't scrap it. sell it to someone who will need it for whatever reason. now if it were a Hyundai or a kia . yeah scrap it!

TRY to sell it, of course.

Problem is, nobody wants that. So, give it a fair try, but don't expect miracles. As many low-perf garbage 305s as there are in the world THAT YOU CAN HEAR RUN RIGHT, it'll be an uphill battle convincing somebody that CAN'T hear it run (because it doesn't) that your FORNICATED one is worth as much as a penny.

Don't be too surprised if you get sick of your new lawn/driveway/garage ornament and decide to throw it in the trash.

Save the parts that you can use on a 350.

Honestly scrap it. You may want to do a kerosene leak down on the heads, if the valve guides/seals are good the heads could be worth a few bucks, then scrap the shot block. Or vice versa if the heads are junk and the blocks good. If it's all bad it's not worth the hassle.

If you want to store a 305 block I have one that has been sitting in my garage for 3 years that I couldn't give away unless it was someone wanting it for scrap. I had ambitions of rebuilding it and went the 350 route instead. Not before I had the heads hot tanked resurfaced and valve job done. Sold the heads at a loss eventually.

the point that I was trying to make is this . you cant find a flat head ford because of this same thinking.everybody scrapped them. and now there are very few. now I know everybody don't have space for that. but hey, one day

And I don't doubt there one day will be a need for it. Like I said, I still cling to the hope that someone will want my old block, really just the crank is good now unless it's bored. I just can't bear turning it into recycled iron for stuff being made today. I was just saying don't spend the money you plan on making selling this thing yet.

Ex-x-fire - That's my plan!

Mayt13 - That's another thought I was curious about. A recent compression test on the motor suggests that the low cylinders have worn piston rings. But at the same time, back when I was driving the car, I had the classic worn valve seal symptom of smoke on startup as well (maybe it's both?). I have a slightly better feeling about the heads than the shortblock, but I guess I will find out soon enough.

Joe Tag - The offer is appreciated, but like yourself, I too plan to go the 350 route. Thanks anyway though!
