ok, this guy goes down to our racing spot every now and then. Very nice looking car. I has right at 100k on it. Its 100% stock. But in perfect tune. What did those things run. What are the specs? Will I roast him?

I'm guessing that the 3000GT is a normally aspirated car, the turbo is a 3000 GT VR4 if I remember right. You should walk all over him unless it is in fact a turbo and the guy knows how to milk all the torque out of it.

The turbo 4wd versions are quick though, especially with a few mods. I've ridden in a 5-spd version and it seemed to defy physics. Launched like it got rear ended.

I know the turbo 4WD cars are quite heavy, even heavier than a small-block F-body. Without the twin turbos a 3.0 litre V6 front wheel drive isn't much of a threat against your ride. I'd bet my last paycheque that you'd walk all over him.

My friends 3000gt ran a 15.1 stock the first time he ever took it to the track .He put a decent amount of mods done to it later on and the best he could run was a 14.1 , and your car almost runs that stock, I would say running him would be a waste of your time.I hope that helps

isn't the 3000gt one of those union cars between dodge and mistu?

so it kinda in a round about way not really a r<x>icer. but anyway import doesn't mean uncle bens. the uncle bens is the thing you find that runs a 20 second 1/4 mile but has all the "LOOK like I go fast" goodies on there

oh yeah they are around low 15's stock for the N/A
don't hold this to me but I think something around 215hp and around the same in torque

but again don't hold it to me been a while since I looked

One quick question. Is it Manual or auto? If it's an auto it's absolutely no contest (dogs off the line). If it's a five speed, and truly is stock you are probably wasting your time, but go show him up anyways. The SL makes 222hp and they run about mid-15's with average drivers.

Now go race him and tell us what happened!

rx7speed-it wasn't really a union between dodge and mitsu as much as dodge taking credit for Mitsu's design. The 3000gt and Dodge Stealth are the exact same cars except for body panels and the valve cover

And vr4s arent that heavy! everyone has the impression that vr4's weigh like 4500lbs . My car weighed in at 3650, mainly due to the support (built like a tank) and awd.

My 2 cents

I beat a NA one in my completely stock rs by 2 car lengths up to 80. I'de say they are pretty slow.

Damn. I was always under the impression they were a lot faster than that. Maybe I am thinking of the VR-4 ones.

I think the one I raced was a 96, It's my buds and its a 5 speed. Normal 6 banger n/a. It kept up for the most through first, then he went to go into 2 and I just left him. They arnt that fast, but hey, I'd drive a vr-4 anyday. They are right up there with TT supras in performance and hp. A litle under but, oh well. I bet that all wheel drive grips too!!!

vr4's are a little bit under the supra? Go watch fast and furious again and live ignorant like many others. Go check the numbers. The VR4 has 320 hp from the factory.

But watch out for the NA's as long as they are a 5 speed they can be pretty quick. I've seen many hit mid 14's. Cuz who actually has a stock car anyways?

So how about that race?

ok, well, hmm, how many times has a car been rated at a factory and then not do the times they say it will, they are about the same, street wise supras will pull a little on a vr-4. Sorry, but I didnt need the f&f to tell me that, but I guess someone who owns a vr-4 couldnt quiver their lips to admit it.

They rated it faster than it was? Where did you get that assumption? They never even rated times, just power. The times magazines got were an average of 13.5, which is correct.

And I don't think that my car is *** either, which is the conclusion you jumped to. It can be argued as much as anyone wants, but the fact is stock for stock a vr4 will take a supra off the line, but the supra will take the top end. In the quarter it's a driver's race. If you want to get technical in terms of why this is the outcome, I'd love to waste my time and tell you EXACTLY why, and how both results can be reversed. Sorry no quivering here.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

87irocz350- Did you smoke the 3kgt yet?

yeah, I guess it's all a matter of opinion anyhow, so, lets just call it even and leave it alone since this whole thread was just about a third-gen racing one. Like vr-4 real said, race him yet?

N/A 3000GT's have been some of my easiest kills.

Sometimes when i want to be cruel i'll let them hang on for a second til they think they have me then i'll wave to them and just put 5-6 cars on them instantly and wave bye-bye.

I've ran into civics and other imports that put up much more a fight than the dozen of so 3000GT SL's i've raced.

We didnt race. But, I did drive his car. Very nice setup. The interior is much nicer than my iroc. And, it has decent pick. But, THe iroc would kill it....out right, no jokes. Im thinkin about buying. I like the whole thing where you push the button and it tightens up the susspenions. Thats something we shoulda had on 3rd gens.
Like I said, I think these cars are very nice.

N/A 3000GTs? That takes all the fun out of them! I always thought they were Twin-Turbo'd. Maybe just a select few. Pity.

The AWD ones (probably VR4's with the turbo) can lay down a mean 60ft time. I like them the GT3000 are not that high starch food we call slow imports with coffee can exhaust at all.

yea the cars are nice... but i dont agree with you on that push button thing... Fbodies handling was and still is top notch. You dont need push buttons to make it pull .95g's on the pad as most Irocs pulled .92 stock.
