Ford Lightning

Anyone got some track times on these Truck's?

I raced one 3 times yesterday in my 92 Z, took him all 3 times. I talked to him later and he said it was a 5.4l Supercharged. He wanted to know what was in my car as he said he has never been beat by a Camaro before then. So I told him a small stroker motor, he laughed and asked what size so I told him it was a 383. He was a pretty good guy and that truck looked SWEET!

First 2 times were from a role and i kept walking away from him and the last time was from a set of lights, he got me by 2 feet off the jump (spun abit more then I wanted too), then i passed him and kept on walking him. It was my first real race other then a guy at work with a 89 Mustang LX(was bad, way slower then this truck was) so I am pretty happy to of won against something with a nice reputation.

I havnt tracked my car yet so was wondering what them trucks run to get an idea of what my car run's, I am very pleased.

I wonder if that guy knew how to drive it? From what I've heard you can do a few mods on them for a few $100 and put one in the upper 13's.

Good kill. You must have a strong runner to beat one of those. They give LS1's a hard time. The Lightnings and cobras can make some serious power with minimal cash. Some guys get close to 500rwhp with only 1200 or less on mods. If you have a built 383 I would say that you are running high to mid 12's. The newer lightnings make 390hp and aren't anything to laugh at. Good Job

Dude lightnings arent that fast , I mean for a truck they are awesome but come on 12's no way I had a friend w/ a gst eclipse that clocked a 14.0 and we raced one of his buddys in his lightnings 5 different times and we beat him by a car link every time except the two times he didnt get any traction at all. I will give it to ford though that is bad a$$ for a truck , you would definetely need slicks to see 13's in those puppys ,oh and i dont think they make a standard lightning so I dont think it had anything to do with the driver , if you have a 383 he must have some crazy mods if he kept up w/ you.Nice kill .

Yes they can easily run those times. Search for my post that B4Ctom1 was referring to.

My brothers 2002 Lightning, ran a best of 13.7 two weeks ago at the track. The only thing he has done is installed a K&N filter. You got an easy 12-13 second third gen there!
Sweet!

Dave

look they are fast, slap a 125 shot on them and they go as fast or faster than our cars do with a 125 shot. Go and look at my post in the last locked lightning thread.

I cannot emphasize how fast those supercharged fords can be. $1000 in mods will literally net you 500rwhp. Just look on ls1.com and see what kinds of fords those guys run with built LS1's. They have videos to back it up too. They are scary stock and down right crazy with just exhaust and a pully or two.

I admit to not knowing too much on them truck but they look kool and that thing was fast.

There was a black lightning at the track last week running 8.7 @78mph in the 1/8, not sure if it was stock or how many mods. It was also crappy weather, raining off and on thats y they were only running the 1/8th.

I you plan on racing one make sure you do it from a roll. Those things are awesome from a stop. I know a guy personally who was pulling 1.8 60's on street tires in one. They aren't that impressive from a roll though. He ran a 13.1, but was only trapping 102.

I saw one run 14.2 at 98 mph last night. That was without a doubt the slowest Lightning I've ever seen...
