took out a Mustang hardcore

First time I've been able to post in here in a long time, but last night I went down to the local hangout for the first time in months to see some of the guys that still go there. I was talking to a buddy, telling him I didn't care what it was, I just wanted to race. Had a '99 Z28, 350Z, and 99 body-style 'Stang GT ready to go at one point, GT guy was the only one that seemed seriously interested.

Still not sure what mods he had, didn't really ask, I know he had gears, exhaust, maybe throttle body and cold air. Beyond that I don't know, my buddy said it was a bolt-on car like his.

We head out on the high way and go from a dig first. I babied it out of the hole because I've already had to get my driveshaft straigthened once from racing, and I've got a better clutch and stickier tires now. Revved to about 2500-2800 rpm, slipped the clutch out just a little bit to soften the hit, got a chirp out of the Nitto's and pulled about half a length on him immediately out of the hole. He spun pretty good. When I hit second the car just hooked like I've never felt before, I definitely love the new set-up. I start pulling a little in second. When I hit 3rd I look in my side mirror and see nothing but head lights, falling back fast. I hit 4th, stayed in it for a second, then backed off when I saw him car lengths back. Wasn't too sure how far it was.

Once he caught back up, we went again from a roll, probably about 20 mph or something. I should have looked to see, but I wasn't paying attention, just watching him, downshifting through each gear as we slowed down farther. Finally we hold speed and his buddy in the passenger seat yells "GO!" I roll into the throttle in 2nd gear, maybe 3500 rpm, car lags a little as it catches up with me wishing I would have dropped it down into 1st. As I top out 2nd he's about a half length behind, but as I hit 3rd he starts dropping back fast. I run out 4th gear and he's probably 4+ lengths back, couldn't really tell and he never said.

We headed back to the parking lot and BS'd for a little while longer, both just out to have a good time. Wasn't a race at all, but I still had fun.

Specs on my setup:
-Complete '95 Z28 drivetrain
**LT4 conversion with Hotcam, 30# injectors, 58mm TB
**Spec Stage 3 ceramic puck clutch
**T-56 with Pro-5.0 short shifter
**4.11 gears
**Nittos
-Heddman shorties
-MSD ign.

Times in sig before T-56, clutch, and gears

Good kill!

It appears as if the only competition for both you and Pasky, is each other!

... hehe, that is, until you make it down to my neck of the woods of course.

Nice kill, Texas!

Nice kill, Texas!

thanks, but that would be up to your neck of the woods

I'll race anything just to have fun and see another car run, especially if its rediculously faster than I am.

I've been following both your's, and Pasky's build-ups for quite sometime now, and I just wanted to say how very impressive it's been....

The two of you will be hitting high 10's sooner than you think!

Wow, I have fans!

As awesome as 10's would be, I have no plans of getting there with this car, mid 11's maybe. If my plans work out, I'll be putting the car on hold for the next 3-4 years as I pursue other options in my life. Not sure how thats going to work out yet.

what in the name of robert e lee are you doing for traction???!!!

i still have the stock gears (2.77) and cannot hook up. the tires are/were michelins and i have the lca, eibach springs, panhard, and strut tower brace. no wheel hop it just smokes them all the way through first and that is rolling into the throttle. punch it, even at 20 and there is no hope, just smiles.

so, how are you hookin up with 4.11????!!!!

-fairly new, used Nittos, 275-40-17
-custom LCA relocation brackets, slightly lower than Spohn's
-boxed LCA's
-custom panhard bar
-stock torque arm
-Hotchkis Pro-kit
-possibly worn-out rear shocks

for this raced, I launched pretty low and slipped the clutch a little to soften it, but when I hit second, all I had was a slight chirp, which really amazed me. Even before the gears and clutch, with the 3.42's and Nittos running at 20 psi, I usually had to try to get them to break loose if I heated them up. I even left them at 30 psi for this race. *shrug*

So do you go to Bandimere often? If I had a car and money this season, I'd be up there for Friday Night E.T. series. Just like I told LeeRacing, if you are planning on being there for the Super Chevy Show maybe I'll come up and visit. My buddy Dustin has an N/A 10 second Nova, so I'd likely go up there and hang out with him. He runs 10's and his car even has mufflers, it's not only amazing, but the quietest one there. lol

never been to Bandi as I haven't had my car up here the past 2 years. I should be able to get it out here in September, and when I do I'll definitely be heading up there.

I was bored, he said he wanted to run, so we did. There weren't any cars there that night anyway that would have been much competition.

12.8 was at Houston Raceway Park at sea level. I don't have and have never had the car up here in Colorado. Sorry for the confusion.

Your times look just about right with the old setup, can't wait to see your new times, hopefully knock off quite a bit with the new gears.

Now did you do the full stock LT4 conversion, or did you port out the heads/intake?

If you're looking for streetable 11's, look into Lloyd Elliot's work as well, his LE1 cam can take you into the 11's, from what I've seen.

What's your raceweight?

its a semi-LT4 conversion. I had the Hotcam with the LT1 heads, then I had some serious overheating problems and suspected a cracked head, put on the LT4 heads and intake. I added 1.6 rockers at the same time, bumped up to 30# injectors last year, and just added a 58mm TB over summer at the same time as the gears.

I've definitely heard of Lloyd Elliot and planning on having him port my LT4's and go with his LE2 cam

raceweight is 3550, full weight car. I usually don't even bother pulling the spare, just take my tools out and leave them in my dad's truck. not planning on doing any weight reduction on this car. only thing I'm considering is skinnies when I put on slicks once I've got a stronger rear.
