92 RS vs 86 Corvette???

Have you even seen the way a buzzard circles its prey before a kill in the dessert?

That Vette will run circles around you before it kills your @ss.

You will need more than TPI on a 305 to even think of keeping up with it.

Ok thanks...I was looking for the 1/4 mile numbers....Im planning my new engine....and wanted to know what numbers to shoot for....Im going for low 13 or high 12s without NOS...and then a 100 HP shot of NOS to finish it off.

THE magic number is 330 NA horse.... you could do that fairly easy with your 305 TBI

- Edelbrock 87+ TBI heads $900?
- ZZ4 Cam $170
- Hi-Po TBI manifold $175
- 454 TBI UNIT $70 (get from salvage yard)
- Headers ($200) get used ones there all over
- Raise fuel pressure $50
- and now if you ever want mad horse get a 334 stroker!

dont forget the weight issue either. the vettes made of 'glass, your solid metal. even a crossfire injected 84 vette would stomp a mudhole in a 305 RS

Hey man your Camaro sounds kinda like mine, but mine's a 91 and is a hardtop. Like everyone else said, the Vette would waste you, but if you put about $1500-2000 into your engine, I would say you would take him no prob. I am gonna try to get my 305 into the low 13's/high 12's on all motor, and I think it can happen.

Yeah pretty soon i'll be investing quite a bit of money on my car....new zz4 engine...completely ported tpi system...either the fast burn heads (if the vortec base comes out) or some AFR heads....and an LT4 hot cam....total (already have the tpi system) I think im looking at about $5000...hopefully that will put me in running 12s (my goal) and then throw in a shot of NOS....but before then I gotta throw some money into the suspension....im HOPING....when the car is completely done, with new rims and everything...I would have spent around $8000. (buy as much used...such as a 4th gen rear end)

If you want to get into the 12's or low 13's, you're gonna put a lot of money into that TPI. Go with a nice intake and carb and (depending on your heads/cam combo)you won't have to worry about running out of breath at 4500 RPM. It is expensive to put a TPI low into the 13's/ high 12's.

See, the horsepower ratings do not tell the whole story. The vette might only be putting out 240hp at the crank, while you think your 305 TBI is putting out 220 at the crank. Not that big of a difference in power.... however, the corvette is a very well designed car. It will hook up better and utilize the 240 ponies much better than any 3rd gen camaro would.

In the end, he will eat you for breakfast, regurgetate you, and eat you again.

It all depends on what condition the Vette's motor is in and what condition your motor is in. I've raced my friend Ray who owns an 87 Vette 3 times. First time was with my 86 Trans Am with the LG4/5 speed combo. I had an Edelbrock carb and intake setup. We were dead even from 0 to 120mph.
I raced him again in my 96 LT1/6 speed Trans Am from a 30 mph roll. When I mashed the gas I took off from him like he was standing still, my 96 has every bolt on minus a S/C.
In my 96 V6/5 speed Camaro that is totally bone stock, we were dead even from 0 to 90mph.
His car was running pretty good as were my cars.
Here are my cars,

Yeah, that's my moms 96 Toyota Corolla.
I plan on building a 383 Twin Turbo motor for my 86 Trans Am and see what it feels like to run at 200+mph.
