The reason the 1.8t recieves so much from a chip is because we are able to control the psi the turbo makes, the chip doubles the psi, changes timing and makes new a/f ratios.....alot of that hp comes from the psi, on a n/a car, there is no boost to increase when chipping, so they are left with advancing timing and different mixtures of the air and fuel to create more hp, which usually is around 10hp or so.....but with our engines, just double the boost, we all know the more air your engine sees the more power it will make(when engine management takes into the account the extra air), well another 7psi of boost creates a lot more power, therefor giving us around 55hp to 65hp from just a chip. FWIW, most chipped Jettas and Golfs run mid to low 14's, however there are a few Golfs and Jettas in the 13's running chip, exhaust, and intake as their only mods.....while for you guys this might not seem fast, we like to brag about our cars because the can be made INCREDIBLY faster than stock for very little $$$, all of us just came over here just so you would know that even though we aren't as fast as you guys, we aren't as slow as you might think . Okay, you guys have a good day

Yes it is possible due to the turbo, up the boost and you get much more power and torque. BTW, I'm talking power at the crank...not the wheels, sorry if that was misleading. I have the newly released APR 93 Octane specific chip for the AWW version of the 1.8T engine. Check it out at www.goapr.com Its no joke. Before this version the chip made 203 hp and 245ft-lbs on the '01 1.8T. This new 215hp version has only been available since last Tuesday, so I haven't had a chance to get on a dyno. Once I do, I will post or email the pics to whoever wants a copy.

For what its worth, here is a dyno of a 01' 1.8T Golf with a chip that pulls lower numbers than mine. It isn't the best dyno, but its a good basis for what our cars can do with just a chip.

Just to show I'm not full of it, I'll offer any one of you a test drive in my car. I'm sure any other SERIOUS 1.8T enthusiast would do the same. I only ask that I get to check out your car too as I don't get a chance to drive V8s these days.

One more thing, I apologize for some of the VW trolls that popped up on here with nothing coherent or logical to say.

Wouldn't you just rather get a boost controller? Then you can double your psi or even more. That does sound like a lot for a chip, but it makes sense since most of the horses are made from boosted psi. That's pretty nice for a V dub but they're just not my cup of tea. If some of you VW guys plan on staying here, now that we have like 10 on this site, lay off the insults of the f-body. I'm sure a lot of us know that some VW's can be made fast but so can any car if money is put into it. Nice talking to you all. Eric

Boost controllers are a good way to add boost the 1.8T motor. But, if you don't add more fuel with the boost controller, your engine could be prone to detination. That's why the chips are good buys. They rework the fuel maps, increase the boost and still maintain driveability. Also, boost isn't infinitely available. The stock turbo on the 1.8T can handle only so much before it can't spin anymore.

There is some good information here, while there is alot of idiotic misinformation in this topic and its getting locked before anything else goes on.

If u guys are going to come to this site to give information thats good, but don't come here and say all kinds of stupid BS that holds no merit at all.
