Lebarons are just funny in my opinion... is his stick? I'd say you've got him unless he's stick and added more than exhaust tip and intake... your tranny is nothing to laugh at when it comes to stock automatics... and even though you don't think so, you should completely kill him off the line... the LG4 in '87 made 170 Hp and 250 lb-ft of torque... you should be pushing ~185Hp with your mods. I'd place you running a mid/high 15 - low 16 depending if you have a 2.73 or 3.23 rear.

I'd say you can beat em, most people who drive those type of cars suck at driving. I'd say put some money on it. and good luck

his car is a auto... he has big plans to get lots of upgrades but for now its pretty much stock. he was telling me that he can run high 14's low 15's all day long. but he timed it inside the car. and him and his friend marked of a qtr mile. who knows how accrute it is.

im going to out to the highway tonight and try and find out what rear end i have.

so if i got 70mph in drive... whatever my rpms are reading is what kind of rear end i have... so 70mph @ 2730 rpms means i have a 2.73 rear end... well i know my speedo is off a few mph i have brand new tires on 16" wheels when i got my car the tires were some what low pro on 15" wheels. so when im going around 50 im reallly doing 53 or so... but ill try the 70mph thing tonight or tomorrow when ever i get a chance. but why 70mph?

The speed used depends on how tall your tire is.

Figure out your rear end by recording speed and rpms at the same time. The faster you are going the more accurate it is, and put it in drive, not OD so that you're in a 1:1 gear. Measure the radius of your tires(half the diameter) but i think you should measure side to side not top to bottom- to avoid discrepencies with sidewall bulge. Take the numbers and plug them into the proper equation of the "equations section" on the thirdgen homepage.

I'd be careful, my Mom had a Lebaron Convertible, it actually had some pick up to it. I'd say it would give a LG4 a run.

i wouldnt worry, i would place you in the mid-high 15s. that should take care of any stock or nearly stock lebaron. i didnt even know there was an aftermarket for those things!!! ricers will mod anything i guess

yeah his car must be kind of quick he took out a 2002 integra 5spd... pretty bad too. yeah any mods he does are so pricey, most are home made or had to have some one do it... know clue why he has that car... but he does and keeps dropping money in it.

Race the Labaron, they are slow. My cousin has a 1995 Labaron with the 3.0 V6 I killed him in my 1971 Caddy eldorado convt w/ a 8.2L 500ci engine (winter car) and I beat him by a car length in a 1998 Chevy Venture mini van. I'd say put some money on it.

Lebaron
3.0 V6
3100 > 3200lbs
141hp 171ft/lbs

turbo models were
2.2 4cyl 174hp 200ft/lbs
2.5 4cyl 150hp 180ft/lbs (yeah i know, the larger engine is weaker than the smaller, the larger engine had over 4in stroke, and severely limited rpms, go figure)

Lots of Chrysler/Mitsubishi engines are good, but fragile...

In that case maybe he'll sling a rod. Just kidding, I wouldn't wish that on anyone who hasn't pissed me off yet. After all, I've had 2 cars with noisy lifters, and an uncle who threw a rod with a I4 '85 lebaron he bought from us, Also the Chevy 305 that was in the Cutlass had a bottom end knock. Troubles, I've had a few.

Cadillac Eldorado...?

Funny about old cadillacs. I've read alot about them and 1 book says 10 seconds to 60 with 66-71 Eldos. I've read about older rwd 50s and 60s caddies taking 10-13 to 60 and still hitting 100 in 20-25. Odd. 120 or thereabouts top.
We used to have a Lebaron 3.0 in auto mechanics class when I was in school. Everyone was thrilled about it except me of course. Guess that mnakes me a rebel and non-conformist. heh heh.

I dont know my last beater car was a lebaron and it was pretty quick, all the way up till the piston blew out the top of the motor. CRAPPY Chryslers, but it gave a late model 6cyl Stang (I think 99)a run for its money LOL. You should have seen his face. If you have beat late model 6 cyl stangs or camaros then you should have no problem.

K car had to throw something...didn't it then?

Soft bastards. I had a 200 I6 Mercury Zephyr that was burning/leaking/spitting oil in every direction and possible way. Yet it took a year of the hardest, roughest driving and abuse that could be given to it. I remember how high the gears would wind on it too. At 50, it would switch to second and at 75, it would switch to 3rd and top out around 110, I'm guessing with that 85 mph speedo. And I have a 403 and have owned or at least had relatives with 305s. Point is, maybe I have high expectations on what "tough" is. But most Chrysler engines, modern ones that is-80s and 90s- seem flimsy.

DUDE, you had a zephyr?!! That was my first car, I bought it for $200 off my grandpa. It had the 200ci I-6 and 3 speed too. mine was even worse than yours for high winding. At some point someone ed him when the diff gears broke and put in some that were too tall. Man, compared to that, my neon felt like an LS1 camaro would to me now.

Here is something I made up for kicks just before GT3 came out

It was a slow...

I actually liked the car though. It had fantastic pickup from 45-65 tho. Slow to get there. Point is, it was tough, unlike its competitors. Of and I bought mine for 300.

Caddy Eldorado..

When I first got the Caddy I was supprised how quick the car was, it will roast the tires as long as I want, a couple months later I found an article in a Motor Trend mag that said the 71' Eldo with the 8.2L put out 400hp and 500Tq and was faster from 0-60 than the Camaro w/ a 350 in the same year. The car is a true sleeper, I have never lost a race in it yet, I've raced a 98 civic V-tec 5spd, a new V6 Accord 2 door, a new buick regal 3.8L, and many others. The only problem is that it's a Bi*** to launch with all of that torque going to the front tires.

FORD FAIRMONT! The Ford version of the Zephyr!

I can't believe you guy's are talking about the zephyr. My CURRENT WINTER BEATER is a 1981 Ford Fairmont. I am going to College up in Maine and I don't want to trash my IROC in the salt, so I got this car for free from my Grandmother when she got a new car. It too has the Straight 6, three speed automatic. I wish that thing had a tach. I drive from Maine to Connecticut when I go home at about 75mph and I swear it's at 7,000rpm. It get's 16.5mpg on the highway! It's horrible!

It IS reliable though, since it only has 50,000 miles on it. It'll do until I get a new beater.

Be glad you are getting 16.5 mpg!! My best was somewhat over 14 mpg, most were 12s. Keep in mind this was city only and the odometer was somewhat off b/c of the wrong rear gear. I think i got the conversion right, but might not have.

On the highway it never felt like it was screaming, might just have been the wrong gears helping out there though.

I'd go fearless man, I mean what could the aftermarket be for a lebaron. At least don't go from a roll, just in case.

LOL I'm probably only pushing 160-165 w/ my LG4, but since it's an '84 it's got all the looks of a more powerful car... teardrop hood and dual exhaust tips says to most people, don't mess with me... and so they don't. But I wouldn't trade my hood for any reasonable amount of money. I guess it's all well since I plan to upgrade cam and exhaust... it will keep most cars off my back and the reputation of the Firebird will be safe until I can back it up.
