Tremec TKO's who want's one?
Ok I have talked to Dan's89IROC and he is in for one from Mike forte in the US and i have heard some people talking about needing a tranny aswell.. and we all know the WC T5's do not hold up once you start making some power.. And I talked to Mike forte on Friday and he quoted me $2165US plus shipping... I know its alot of cash but its kinda like insurance buy once or buy every 2 years if your lucky... So maybe we can get some kind of GP going for the serious guys who have some cash saved up...
Let me know on this thread or pm me..
Dan is talking to Forest and Forest about getting them shipped there so we save some of the brokerage fee's..

Tremec T56 at JEGS is $1950 USD - did a search on it a few weeks ago.
What I want to know is - if you have 4:11s or something won't the DS be spinning at one hell of a rate in sixth gear - like maybe you'd need a better DS so it doesn't end inside the car with you.

here are soemthnig s to look at when getting a 6 speed
a used T-56 ..... price out a normal t-56 clutch vs a T-5 " centreforce II "--------> the TKO uses the stock T-5 stlye clutch ( HUGE saveings )
the used T-56 requires
- the bellhouseing
- shifter
- flywheel
- clutch disec
- clutch pressure plate
- sealed master/slave cylinder
- and all associated hardware
from the donar car ..........I seen this all for 2400 used ...not rebuilt
the TKO ......bolts right in .....kit come with new
yolk ..... and you can use the stock T-5 clutch and everythnig!!!!

see......that just for the tranny
George ........ I don't think that comes with everything you need ......I also wonder why it is 1000 USD cheaper than a Richmond 6 speed

Yeah it's just the tranny but it's new and bolts into the existing T5 set up.
As for the price that's about what they go for - Spohn sell the same one for $2300 - I may have got that JEGs price from an outdtaed link though as I don't see it there now.

Here's what I'll add:
"...the used T-56 requires
- the bellhouseing (should come with tranny)
- shifter (get a stocker for cheap from one of the TFBM guys $25 or Pro 5.0 for about $300)
- flywheel ($50 used + $50 resurface)..only bolts up to an 86+ crank!
- clutch disec ($50 used..might last first summer, or about $750 new)
- clutch pressure plate (see disk)
- sealed master/slave cylinder ($156 cdn at GM)
- and all associated hardware
from the donar car ..........I seen this all for 2400 used ...not rebuilt ..."
Don't forget about hooking up the mechanical speedo or the new cross member needed, I started with a 4th gen camaro one. If someone needs it I have drawings to add the mechanincal drive (required welding and machining)
You'll also need a 4th gen torque arm mount for the tranny.
Oh ya, the mileage isn't actually that much better from a 700r4 with 3.23 gears, so don't bank on that. It is a LOT quieter on the highway if you have un-corked exhaust...that's a nice bonus.
Not hard to install.

GMPP sold that tranny, briefly. It's either Pace, Scoggin Dickey, or one of those other big parts houses. They aren't cheap.

Are you guys referring to the T56 clutch pressure plate bolting to the T5 flywheel or the T5 clutch working with the T56 trans?
The T56 clutch is very differend from the T5. It's a pull release, the opposite of the T5 and almost every other GM clutch made.
The splines are the same. Its the reverse actuation thats a PITA.
The new 4th gen slave bolts right up to the 3rd gen chassis and T56 bellhousing, just have to shorten the rod from the pedal about 1/2".

Neil, one of the big parts houses in the US used to sell a T56 that worked with the stock T5 components. Summit used to sell them as well. They cost about $2800US if I recall correctly.
You gonna bring the IROC out to play with the rest of us this summer?

Oh ya man, I'll be out.
I don't park it where I live, so its a pain sometimes to get out in it for a spin. I barely drove it last year....just long enough to spank a few LS1's
I guess that kit just supplied a different bellhousing. Could most likely mod a skattershield for a T5 to work for cheap. Someone should try that.

Anyone want a TKO .....I AM definatly getting one ....I figured we could all split shipping costs as well ....who knows maybe get a deal on them as well .
thanx

The T5, TKO, and T56 are internal rail shifters. That's why they shift as smooth as butteh. The Richmond 6 speed is a "linkage" shifter. It uses rods to actuate each gear. It's also somewhat loud from what I understand. It's more of an old school tranny. I think they're pretty much un-breakable though.
Given the choice, i'd go with the TKO.

OKay , I just talked to Forest & Forest Raceing ....they are out . the only one they want to deal with is the mustang version. Now I gotta get a hold of the Fortes end of the deal . I will try and see if he will give us some sort of deal ....but this will be a " come and pick it up at my house " deal or where ever we decide is closest for all of us . .....I think I should phone UPS and find out the hidden shipping costs . I'll get back to ya
