Drive Clean test limits

Has anyone else noticed that their test limits have changed radically in the past year? The ASM2525 limits are 1/6th of what they were 2 years ago (1988 model year).

I personally hadn't noticed- only one of my existing vehicles has needed an e-test the last few years- but it wouldn't surprise me. The government always said "limits would be adjusted" over time- which meant only one thing- older vehicles will continually become harder to pass so the MOE can gid rid of everything either not in A-1 perfect condition or less than 5 years old.

Sad- because since the inception of the DriveClean program, the government's own numbers indicated DriveClean has reduced expelled pollutants- but at a rate far far lower than anyone could have imagined- underlining that either vehicles really aren't the huge problem they have been made out to be, or that "DriveClean" type tests are irrelevant because most vehicle pollution comes from idling- you can't force anyone to make their car burn cleaner than it left the factory- and anyone who lives anywhere around the GTA knows most cars spend a great deal of time idling pretty much everywhere as traffic congestion keeps going up and up.

The test limits have been tightened by about 30% since the first year of testing. Not enough cars were failing to justify the drive clean program. Its all about "feel good" politics, not
scientific facts, long term planning and common sense that drives this program. The only way to significantly reduce the air polution caused by cars exhaust is thru improved technology. Which comes naturaly thu retiring older cars with newer cleaner ones. The testing is just a tax on the poor. Only about 2% of car produced in say 1990 are on the road 20 years later. Their natural life cycle is finished. They rust out, they wear out. They get replaced by new cars with much cleaner engines.
