I am having some problems.

I have been working on my new car all day today and I am stumped. I need some questions answered if you guys can help me.

I am using a OTC 2000 to check the codes.

I looked at my maf senser while the engine was running and it isn't glowing but I am not recieving any codes like the maf isn't working If I un plug the maf it doesn't change the idle any. I have a seperate maf sensor and with neither of the maf sensors the wires arn't glowing I know the one I had as a spare is a good maf so I dont' think it is a problem with the maf. Would the maf relays going out show up as a maf code in the computer. I am thinking that I may have a maf relay out and it isn't showing up as a code in the computer

I am having a problem with the engine running lean by the scanner and I think the reason it is getting a little warm is because of it running lean. It is so bad that you can smell it.

I dont know whether or not a bad burn off relay would throw a code, but the code comes from the ecm recognizing air flow reading out of range vs rpm and possibly something else, i'd have to look, but anyways it could be your burn off relay maybe?

I would suspect the power relay to throw codes before the burn off would.

I could be wrong

Well, i know that in the 85's there is a specific code for burn off, so I wouldn't be so sure.

The wires inside the maf arn't glowing red at all I am getting readings from the maf of 08260512 that is what my otc code scanner says when I go to the maf readings on the scanner.

I know the seciond maf I put on the car is good it came off my gta and it was functioning fine.

Ok guys I replaced my computer with the one from my gta and it started throwing codes I pulled the maf, tps and iac loose and I got codes for the maf and for the tps. But the wires in the maf's still arn't glowing. I will replace the maf burnoff relay tomorrow. Were is the maf burnoff relay I can take the ones off my gta to do the test.

I just don't know which relays are the maf relays I think the one on the radiator core support is one of them but I really am not shure.

Car: 88 GTA
Engine: modified L98
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 3.27 9-bolt
08260512? What kind of a reading is this Brock? The OTC should give you a gram/sec reading somewhere, what does that look like? Also, if your GTA MAF didn't act any different, I doubt it's the problem.

It could be just the factory programming too, my car always ran rich, even when it was bone stock. And the MAF isn't the only thing that adjusts the fuel curve either. Check your coolant temp sensors. The ECM adjusts the fuel curve based on the temp of the engine too. And never rule out the O2 either.

The MAF relays are beside the master cylinder on the firewall. Look in one of the Chilton's manuals you have at work, there's a diagram in them showing the locations.

BTW guys, we're working on the 88 Formula.
