Car won't rev past idle.
I'll start from the top.
Over a month ago my fuel pump died. After I got it changed out it ran for a week then started hesitating really bad. It got to the point that touching the gas made it stuble and backfire. It idles fairly well, but that is all. Since the car has 200k miles I decided to change the injectors just to be safe. It didn't help. The car still won't rev past idle.
So. I have a car that cranks fine, idles fine, but won't do anyting else. Six months ago I replaced the distributer, plugs, plug wires, coil, and ignition module. I replaced the ignition module again just to be safe, with no luck.
I checked the timming today, and it is fine, it also has not thrown any codes.
I'm wondering, could the coolant sensor control timming this much or not?? Also, what about the ESC??
Thanks.

It's not the coolant sensor. I just changed it and it didn't get any better. It does run better with the coolant sensor unpluged though.
I did notice that it is running extreamly lean! I've ordered a tester for the injectors so I can test the resistance through the injector and the fireing current comming from the ECM.

did you check your fuel pressure it has to be at least 35 lb s on the low side. I read that it will not run at pressure lower that 25 lb. stock tpi is about 40-43. may be you got the wrong fuel pump.

fuel pressure is steady at 45psi.
I currently belive it is a vaccum leak. One of the inside runner bolts is stripped out. I'll be taking the runner off and looking at trying to retap it today.
I may have to "rig" it with Permatex Ultra blue, if I can't retap it.

Val,
You DID change the fuel filter when you changed pumps, correct? And installed a new pickup sock, right?
You can performa a fuel pump flow test to see if the pump will deliver at least one pint of fuel in 15 seconds to an open container. If not, you could be going lean above idle under load.

yes I have changed the filter when I put in the new pump, and again after this problem.
I have not done a flow test yet. After I get the runner bolt problem fixed i'll look at the flow of the pump.
Yesterday when I was tighting the inside back runner bolt I striped it out Now I have to find a tap that won't require me to bore out the hole on the base. If I can't I'll have to rig it with some ultrablue.

possible malfunctioning TPS.
if the computer doesn't know that you've opened the throttle it can't really adjust for the throttle being open.
That's an easy one to test for with a volt meter.

Just a thougth. not sure if it's even close but it kinda makes sense.
