350 TPI rebuild???

I was wondering if anyone could toss me info on a kit to rebuild my engine? I've done a lot of searching but am pretty much a novice and don't have the experience in part selection when it comes to the different dealers. I'd really appreciate any info you can offer with some of your guys wisdom on the topic.

What I hope to achieve is pretty much stock. I plan to run a better cam and port my heads and intake and throw on a set of headers, but thats about it.

If there is anyone you can refer me too that offers a kit or package deal, I'd really like to have their web address ro telephone number. Thanks...

First, you'll need to find a reputable machine shop in your area. Sorry, I can't help you there. Just ask around. It's likely you'll be using them to clean and inspect your case, install your cam bearings, and possibly machine worn areas. You don't want a novice. And if you're in a hurry, it'll cost you more.

If you have been using synthetic lubricants for a long period of time, you may not have a lot of piston or bore wear. If you are satisfied with the current compression, cleaning and reusing your cast pistons might be O.K. Other than that, names I trust are:

Clevite bearings. Jones or Badger pistons. Perfect Circle rings. Cloyes timing set. GM or FelPro gaskets (GM first, since FelPros don't always have the perfect fit). Comp cam, lifters, springs, retainers and locks, rockers, push rods. Manley Race-Flo valves. Melling oil pump.

As for the heads, if you are planning to do a lot of the work yourself, porting is time consuming but easy. If you are paying to have someone do the work, you may be better off with new aftermarket heads. Before you put your porting tools away you'll want to address the factory mismatch of the plenum, throttle body, runners, and intake base.

Once you tear into it, box up the injectors and send them off for cleaning and flow matching. I'd suggest Cruzin' Performance for that service.

A hot caustic cleaning and stress crack inspection of the case and heads might be worth the minimal cost.

If you need new rods, look at the GM powdered metal rods. They'll live well up to 450 HP at a respectable RPM, are lighter, and better balanced than your cast rods. If you need more of the bottom end than that, and entire rotating assembly might be a better choice.
