A/C Delete- Gains?
I was wondering what kind of performance gains would I get by deleting the A/C from a stock LB9 Iroc Z28?

you wont gain anything, you will get back power that was lost... the AC robs the power from the engine. Paracitic loss will be reduced and you will gain it back.. kinda like underdrive pullies, only with no charging problems.. also it will clean your engine bay up... taking out the AC, Condencer, and canister is a b*tch

yup you forgot he has a 92 with the serptine system so all he has to do is get that delete pulley and just rip the rest out. I can get pics of mine for you if you like or a detailed explanation on what to do.
al, coolant problem is still mysterious???? But i picked up some headers today and i talked to my boss, possible new paintjob this summer heheh.

As far as having AC both my IROC's didn't/don't have AC. My Jeep has AC and on the hot summer days it's great. But when working under the hood I love not having AC. So there's upsides and downsides to it.

well then taking out the ac for him is a snap.
also a non ac delete box is not necessary to do the deletion, i did it without the box for now until i can later find one at a price i can afford. It might not look as pretty but theres no harm in doin it.
oh and the main reason i took mine out was cuz i have a vert, so i never used the ac anyways.

i've got brackets and pulleys from an 87 IROC, it's been well over a year since I removed it all from the donor car. It's a serpentine set up correct? Where do you get the delete pulley from? I'm deleting the air to run a bigger radiator so I don't over heat in these texas summers.

87 was the last year of V-belts on F-Bodys. It could by chance be that your donor car was a factory freak and had an early sepentine setup. Easy way to tell though: what side of the car does the alternator munt on with your bracket? Passenger side for v-belt and driver for serpentine. Also the brackets themselves: are they a buch of pieces of iron, painted black but probably rusted by now or are they a couple of big pieces of cast alluminum? Iron for v-belt and alluminyum for serp.
I hope thats the info you wanted.

and to answer the orignal question:
you will see no gain power wise by deleting the AC.
the AC compressor is only turning when its on. otherwise, the compressors clutch is disengaged, and the belt just spins over the pulley.... exactly the same way as it does with a AC delete pulley.
there are only 2 gains you see from it:
1 weight reduction
2 easier to work in engine compartment.
you just need to ask your self a few questions:
1 do i spend more time working on my car or sitting in traffic wishing the AC worked?
2 do you need to take out the weight for the strip? or would you rather clean out the junk in the car and take a dump before you go down the track? fact is, unless you care so much and are so dead nuts accurate to see the .05 diff in your timeslip, its not even worth it.
i have a vert. i always drive with the top down but im also smart enough to realize that i will end up stopping it traffic at some point, and it gets HOT in texas.
not only does my AC work, but i re routed the air doors so that it blows all the AC to my feet on max ac.... that way, as the car moves, the cool air gets sucked up and over me.... so i can cruise in stop and go traffic (also known as the highway in dallas) in 105* weather and still feel comfortable.
my opinion is, unless its a all ***** out nothing held back race car, keep the AC, you're only breaking your car otherwise.

Hey Mr....
Hes got a 86, so he doesnt need a delete pulley.. just some wrenches and some shears!! You wont get hp, you will gain some back due to (very small) parasitic loss. Plus, you dont have all that crud under the hood and less weight is always good. Also, AIR removal is a big thing too. If there is no visual inspection of your car, then i sugest you hack them off, or get a set of headers that will eleminate them for you... but if you have emissions testing, you will need to retain the pump to pump gases to the cat.... but if you dont... buh bye to that! these are all things that can and will lighten up the car, give you some small hp gains, and have less clutter.... IF the car has ttops, then who the frig cares about AC when you can do 80 with the tops off... I might rip mine out sine several lines in my car are busted and leaking... but i plan to make my car a cruser, and not a dragster... so ill keep it, but frig the dang AIR tubes...

well I have my car registered in an area where emissions testing is not required. I am getting some SLP 1 5/8" headers and probably gut the cat.

When you gut the cat you will see gain s for sure, ~10hp is what a cat robs from a stock motor. If you can have a stright pipe put through the cat housing and you should see all that power back.
