A/C delete on the cheap

I decided to pull the A/C on my car today since the pump has been making this horrible rattling noise for the last couple months. However, I didn't treasure the thought of spending $120.00 CAD on an A/C delete pulley.
So, I got a shorter belt and just bypassed it. It works just fine, and the tensioner still provides tension.
The only thing I have left to do is put a little 'bump stop' on the tensioner so it provides a little more tension. After that, it will be perfect!

Nope, no voltage drop at all. The belt is actually quite tight as it is, about as tight as stock. And I can pound my stereo ( JBL BP600.1/ kenwood 120 x 2) with no ill effects so far.
Anyone else?

im sure it works, i just dont like the look of that big empty bracket. the A/C delete pulley even though it doesn't have to be used, gives the engine compartment look kinda cool.

I know, as soon as I took the A/C out, I thought- that's ugly, but at least the rattling is gone.

What you did was interesting, but now you have no way to remove the smog pump and retain the serpentine setup unless you install an idler pully somewhere. I paid $47 for my AC-delete pully shipped. My engine bay looks really clean without the smog pump and A/C setup. I forget the URL, but do a search and you will find it. Good luck with your car.

I know, I've been studying that post for what to do, but I didn't want to move my alt to the other side. I had to do this cheaply and quickly as this is my daily driver.
I still may pick up a delete pulley one day if I can get one cheap, but I refuse to go to the dealer to get one.
I'm also gonna keep my smog pump.

remove smog pump

flip direction the tensioner goes

run it on the tensioner.

that MIGHT work..... depends on the spring strength i suppose.

I did that too except I got rid of the entire passenger side bracket and put on a short belt. It works great like this but I'm putting underdrive pullies on it soon so I may need another belt again. I like all the extra room it made.

No tensioner, I just did some grinding on the alternator bracket and made it adjustable.
