LTI head ?

A budy of mine told me he has a set of Lti heads he will sell me that were converted to use a vortec manifold. I have not seen the heads yet but I will soon, is this possible? I was planning on buying vortecs but this would cost me less. Do the Lti heads flow as good as vortecs? If this would work would it be a good idea?

Never heard of something like that. I know they can be modified for a typical SBC intake but for a Vortec style? The two bolt patterns are immensely different. I'm going to have to call

It could be done. You would have to convert the heads as normal for a SBC then re-drill the head for the Vortec intake bolt pattern.

It would be very much more cost effictive to use a LT1 intake with LT1 heads. half your work is done right away since the intake bolt patters are an exact match. If you are carbed then that's a different story.

I am already LTR and would like to stick with it. He claims they were drilled for the vortec manifold, and the water holes welded and the heads decked. I alread have the SD vortec manifold but will these heads flow as well as the vortecs? Im looking on building a 12 sec motor.

Vortecs flow better than any production head, other than the LS1. The low lift flow numbers are particularly impressive.

I don't see how LT1 heads could be modified to work with a Vortec intake. The Vortec heads have raised ports, not just a different bolt pattern. The LT1s can be modified to work on a traditional small block, but I wouldn't bother. If you want to run a Vortec intake use the Vortec heads modified for a high lift cam. That's the most cost effective solution, and there are plenty of guys running 12s with that setup.
