If you are talking about our hydraulic roller lifters, the max lift is mainly limited by the valve spring. If you intend to go above the stock lift (or the stock springs are old), then you should purchase and install new springs which are designed to handle the lift you are going to use.

FWIW: I am biulding an 395 cu in engine having .525" lift. For this usage, I bought dual 987 (I think) Comp Cams springs.

I believe that you can do about .380 lobe lift (~575 at valve), before the lifter body will push up on the lifter retainer, and therefor the the spider leg. I spoke with both Crane, and Comp about this because this may be exactly why I kept having lifter, and valvetrain problems (and now am solid roller). I could be wrong, but that is what the cam techs told me. Good luck with your build-up!
