5.0 tune for 5.7?
I picked up an 86 TA for $200, interior was gutted but the entire TPI system went on my new 350. I was wondering if the stock 5.0 tune will work, cause I'm kinda broke for the moment, and I haven't been able to find a 5.7 car anywhere. I'm using a Melling Torque cam (Lift .420/.443 Duration @ .050" 204¯/214¯ ) stock 1.94 heads and a full exhaust, any ideas as to how much this is killin my output? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

It will run, but not optimally. The 305s tend to get away with a little more timing advance than the 350s. You'll also want to check the detonation sensor, since the 305 sensor may be too sensitive for the 350.

I running my 305 TPI and computer on my new motor with 350 knock sensor and EST which is an LO5 Roller Cam. After hooking it up to a scanner and monitoring everything, even at WOT it runs just fine.
Basically what I'm saying is it will run, but an LO5 is a very mild 350, your bigger cam may be an issue, what kind of heads are you running?

I was under the assumption that all you needed to run a 350 on a 305 computer is a new knock sensor and ESC for a 350.
I believe the part numbers are:
350 ESC - 16128261
350 KS - 10456288
Either way, it will run, but you should look into a custom chip if you want max performance. If you want to go cheaper atleast find a chip that was for a 350 engine, or get someone to burn/re-burn your chip with a mild 350 tune You do know the 305's had smaller injectors, right?
86 was MAF, so I am assuming you're still running MAF, I would think it would be forgiving enough to run that engine fairly well, the cam isn't THAT large, and I already ran a 305 with 350 injectors and passed California Emissions that way too... so I believe MAF can do great things all by itself.

I did it aswell . My car idles perfectly with all my mods on a new motor . Only had an EGR code ( probably not related) but other than that it worked fine .

ok, you guys are gonna laugh, but this is a budget buildup, so I've been using whatever's handy... I replaced the 305 injectors with a set of ford injectors out of a 5.8 (351) truck motor... It's been running fairly well (anywhere under 30mph it goes sideways) and the only code i'm getting is from the maf (which is fried) i can't tell if it has gone into detonation yet, so I'm hoping the timing is about where it needs to be. as for the knock sensor, i used one we had from a TBI 350, I think they're the same. I haven't had too many problems but for some reason it runs richer than crap. perhaps the maf is to blame for the fuel mixture?
ps-sorry for the long post, it's been awhile since i've been able to check back...

Makes sense that it runs rich. The ECM thinks they are 19# injectors so it will adjust things according to how it would with 19#'s. Those Ford injectors are probably 24#'s which is why the car will run really rich. The blown MAF doesn't allow it to make ANY correction, even though I doubt it will ever run right until you either swap injectors back to 19#'s or get a burnt chip. I have chip-burning stuff sitting here in my room that I may get rid of in favor of a real-time programming method. PM me if you're interested.

Oh, by the way, i read what was said about a knock sensor and an ESC.... I'm usually pretty good with acronyms, but this one escapes me....
