Weird stall issue, fuel pump related?

Okay folks, my Iroc (87, 305 TPI with 5sp with 72k on the clock) was stalling when coming to a stop the last couple of weeks. It went away and was driving fine. Yesterday, the car would not turn over. However, it would if I put my foot on the gas. In order to prevent a stall, I had to feather the throttle when standing still. The car drove fine. Any thoughts? I assume it is fuel related, just not sure where to start.

Thanks.

Car: 86 Monte SS (730,$8D,G3,AP,4K,S_V4)
Engine: 406 Hyd Roller 236/242
Transmission: 700R4 HomeBrew, 2.4K stall
Axle/Gears: 3:73 Posi, 7.5 Soon to break
Do the rest procedure on the IAC and be sure the TPS is correctly set. (see tech articles off the main page)
Also check that your VSS is operating (should be if you are not running a cable driven speedo and you get indications)
The VSS signal can cause stalling when coming to a stop if the reading is not reaching the ECM.
The not turning over issue should have nothing to do with your foot on the gas. Maybe just an intermittant problem with the starter solenoid.

Ok, hook up a fuel pressure gauge and turn the engine to acc. DO NOT START, you should hear the fuel pump kick on and see pressure on the gauge. If there is pressure then you have fuel, go and check spark when cranking. If you don't have pressure and do not hear the pump turn on than the pump is most likely dead. As far as the stalling when you are coming to a stop, it is most likely going to be the IAC. idle air control located on the throttle body (passenger side). While you are there check the TPS make sure the voltage is withing spec and the transition is smooth between idle and wide open throttle and back again. If you don't have spark, check connections esp. the one from the coil to the distributor, they are famous for comming apart and causing a no start. You will have to check this with a multi meter because the break is usaully with the connector itself. Hope this helps good luck.
I assume it is cranking with no start. If not check the battery.

Thanks fellas. I will start with your suggestions. As for the starting issue, I don't think it is starter related. Pushing the throttle gets the car to start. That is why I assumed there is a fuel delivery issue.

Getting it to crank by pushing the throttle?
Can't even think how that is happening, although if your TPS is going bad or has a spot that makes it read high voltage the ECM will shut off fuel during cranking. IIRC it is over 80% throttle.
But that is only during cranking and under 300 rpm.
