You will need a TPI fuel pump in the tank or externally mounted. Whichever route you take to get 44PSI of fuel pressure to the TPI system is up to you. Since you have to remove the tank to exchange one from an IROC, it may be just as easy to mount a new TPI pump in your old tank and not bother with the used tank. Make sure you provide a fuel return line and a vapor vent line in addition to the fuel supply line.

The engine wiring harness is completely seperate from the car harness for the most part. You will need the complete harness, computer, throttle cable, and the tranny kickdown cable to do your swap. The engine harness will cover all aspects to run the fuel injection. The car harness you already have runs your gauges lights and most everything else not related to emissions or fuel computer.

The throttle cable for the tpi is longer and so is the tranny kickdown. So far on my Monte SS, it has been pretty straight forward. I am using the painless wiring harness with the 86-88 Tpi with mass air and the 9th injector.

You should be able to tie the two harnesses together where the dash harness plugs into the computer harness. The dash harness is you ALDL, Brake switch for the TCC converter, and the power from the ignition.

One issue that may come up because you are using a speed density system is the VATS. This is the security that GM put into the Vettes and TA's and some Camaro's that will give you fits because the system looks for the resistor in the key to allow the car to run. You may have to get a custom chip burned to eliminate the VATS. Painless wiring and some others offer a chip that eliminates the VATs.

PAINLESS or have someone modify your carb harness to accept the tpi.

New harness vs spliced- I would go with PAINLESS all day.

I converted my 86 IROC-Z from Carb to TPI. It was some work but worth it. I highly suggest to pick your parts wisely, it will cost you though. You only need the pass side harness like stated. It may be easy to find an un hacked 89 or newer harness. I would suggest the painless wiring harness as well, about 3 bills. You HAVE TO GET a GM service manual for what ever year injection system you want to install, it has every color coded wire and exactly every step for tuning and trouble shooting. Since my IROC is an 86 I went with an 86 TPI system and got the 86 GM service manual from a buddy and it made it MUCH easier. I suggest sending your injectors into Rich at Cruizin Performance for a full cleaning. Mine were completely clogged and would have made for a huge problem the first time I tried to fire it up. Next thing, the intake and runners - go ahead and do yourself a favor, buy the large tube runners and big mouth base! It will cost you around 7 bills for those two pieces but you will appreciate it when your engine still has power over 4000 RPM. Problem of stock intake manifold and runners! I will replace my stock ones out in the near future to allow my car to run longer. Like stated, new TV cable, accelorator cable, and misc odd and ends. I did an engine rebuild, tranny rebuild, serpentine belt assembly install and carb to TPI swap all in one shot and it took me forever. I could go on forever and forever but feel free to ask me anything you might want to ask and there is another very knowledgeable board member I converse with a lot that used a VSS style set-up as well. He'll probally chime in on this thread soon. Tony

i would focus on a good fuel system, from the tank to the fuel rails, i'm not sure if your motor is stock or not, but you will need a custom chip with vats removed, if your motor is modified at all you may be looking at additional programming

i used a stock harness for my setup, you dont have to change the fuse box but if you want plug and play you would have to, otherwise you have to tie in to the cars harness from the engine harness, for the tcc injector power ecm power vss ect, you definately need a service manual and a lot of money for parts.

any other questions ask away.

Not to hijack, but would a fuel-injected v6 interior harness work as a plug and play unit?

I ran a Holley Inline External pump on my swap since I didn't feel like messing with the tank at the time.
