ok i tdc'ed it and its getting spark.... it runs when i spray starting fluid in the throttle body..... but as soon as the starting fluid burns it dies.... fuel pump is coming on... could there be air in the fuel rails or could i have the injector wires backwards... someone help.... been screwing with this all day.....is it possible to cross injector wires???

you put the line on the harmonic balancer lined up with the "O" on the timing tab and point the dizzy rotor toward the number 1 cylinder.....right??? if so i already did that...

But, if the engine runs momentarily by squirting some starter fluid in it, it's more than likely in you're fuel system. How do you know that the fuel pump is being triggered, are you listening for it? Did you check the systems pressure?

Did your cam come with a 10 degree advance ?
Things I did wrong on mine.
1. Vavle Adjustment.
2. Tighen Spark plugs
3. Set timing.
4. Firing order.

Like they said, if its starting and running on the spray then you seem to have the cam installed properly, and the timing set correctly, so that leave it as a fuel problem. Just take a deep breath and relax a second. You need to put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail and make sure your getting fuel at least to the rails. Im not sure if you can cross or mix up the injector wires, they should be in some kind of order by length so you should not have mixed them up. Have you tried to just move the dist, a few deg in adv/retard and try again. Keep us updated.

fuel comes out the schrader valve like normal... could it be the regulator... it seems to make a weird noise when i shut the key off...like there is air in it.... so tomorrow i am going to take it off and see what is up... but when you let it sit for 30 min or so it seems to want to run but suddenly dies...

There's no air in the fuel rails.
Mine ran like crap at first too, fuel pressure and timing were key. Also make sure that the Battery is fully charged, low voltage will affect the fuel injectors.
That cam is going to make your engine want more fuel. Buy a gauge and measure the fuel pressure. Set the fuel pressure at 44 to 46 psi while turning the engine over with the vacuum line disconnected. Then re-connect the line.
Buy a timing light. Start the engine, then after it's running disconnect the ECM control wire. Now set the distributor for 8 to 10 degrees of initial timing with the ECM control wire disconnected. Now reconnect the wire, turn off the engine, and then restart it.
I'd bet a dollar to a dime that it's too lean. It sits for 30 min and the injectors leak some extra fuel into the intake. You turn the key and it trys to start. Then it dies because it quickly becomes too lean....
My engine had lean pop anytime that I reduced the fuel pressure to 39 psi or less. It likes 48 psi without any PROM mods and I'm using 22 lb. SVO fuel injectors.
Also you might have left off a vacuum line on the Plenum... That would make the fuel mixture even more lean....

Depends on what your running now. Do you have a Adjustable fuel pressure reg?
I bought a Holley one.
But....I'm in the middle of all this to. I bought Edelbrock hi flow runners and intake, ported plenum, Holley AFPR., New cam, springs, roller timing gear, and new cover. So I hope I get it all back and running like it was.
So thank you all in advance The more I read the more it helps me out!
