Lunati Voodoo cam swap

I'm planning to do a cam swap on my 88 GTA. It has a 305 tpi with MAF and a T-5. I want to go with a Lunati Voodoo cam (#60101). Does anyone know if it is possible to run these cams using the stock ecm and chip? Thanks for the help!

Re: Lunati Voodoo cam swap

Your 88 is a hydraulic roller motor... why would you downgrade to a flat tappet cam?

I'm not sure if this will work for you, but these are some kits that were recommended to me (http://www.summitracing.com/compare.aspx). If I don't use one of those, I'll just buy everything separately and use an LT1 or LT4 cam... those are cheap and they are a major upgrade. I don't know if things changed for the 305 in 88 as apposed to the 87 cars, but from what I've been told and found, our cams a absolute junk! Here's the specs...

Duration @ 0.050 Lift: 179int/194exh
Valve Lift w/ stock 1.5 rockers: 0.350"int/0.384"exh

Based on that, pretty much anything is an upgrade! Since our motors are pretty much the exact same, you can check out the thread I started. There is some good tech in there and a few people talking about their experience with some cams. Well, here it is.

Re: Lunati Voodoo cam swap

Mike,

Thanks for the info. That thread was helpful. To answer your question, I was considering a flat tappet just because of the difference in price. Lunati does make a line of LT1, LT4 hydraulic roller cams but they are 2 to 3 times as much. What would be the main drawbacks of switching to a flat tappet other than a little more friction without the roller lifters. Wouldn't the increase in lift and duration more than compensate for the added friction? Let me know what you think. I'll take all of the advice I can get. Thanks.

Re: Lunati Voodoo cam swap

I honestly don't know if the drawback would be worth the extra lift. I was just curious to see if you knew something I didn't. Maybe I should look into this too...

Re: Lunati Voodoo cam swap

If your hoping for a upgrade in camshaft for your roller engine that's not to expensive why don't you get a LT-1 Stock camshaft. I'll bet you can find one for a lot less than that lunati. Roller camshafts do not wear like flat tappet camshafts.
