ARGH!!!!!!!!!! SLP runners.
ok, so i am trying to remove the whole intake manifold setup...
i had to order the SLP tool for the allen head bolts for the runners...which works GREAT!
except...
2 of the bolts are completely stripped, the allen doesnt even try to bite, using my camera to see the bolt head, its completely rounded!!
they are BOTH in the worst possible spots...first one is on the drivers side middle lower between cyl 1-3...the second is on the pass side lower, between 6-8...
how in the HELL am i going to get these out, ive spent the last few hours trying to find a way to do it without hurting the runners, or the base{its a scoggin dickey lower}
any ideas/thoughts/suggestions?

if you have access to a cutoff wheel you should be able to fit it with a new 5" disk make a grove deep enough but not all the way through after you do this you sound be able to fit a flat head bit or a flat screwdriver to get it off (i recommend the flat bit and a screw gun)
just get the wires out of the way
just get the wires out of the way
mine are on the bottom, in the middle...the runner completely covers the bolt...
only thing i can think of to try is to use a small drill bit, and one of those reverse thread extractors...drivers side one shouldnt be much issue....the passenger rear by the hvac box is going to be next to impossible i think...

if the stripped ones were on top, this would be easy...

Just hit any hardware store and if the ez out bottoms out before it grips then just grind off the end of the ez out to get the right fit in your round hole.

re: ARGH!!!!!!!!!! SLP runners.
for removing damaged allen head bolts i prefer using one of these if i have the right size,
http://www.usatoolmart.com/HandTools..._25_Piece.html
in a pinch i have also used a torx socket a few times to remove damaged allen bolts by driving the torx bit into the allen bolt head.

i indeed have ALLEN head bolts.
what you are not understanding is, there is ZERO room to get a dremel/grinding wheel in to notch/cut off the head..

re: ARGH!!!!!!!!!! SLP runners.
just drill the head of the bolt off....remove the runner....then use vicegrips to remove the stud. did this on a tork that stripped...

re: ARGH!!!!!!!!!! SLP runners.
Hammer a cheap socker over top of the , im guessing round, allen head bolt. I had SLP's, in stock form they really aren't much of an improvement over OE runners, and the rough casting IMO is not worth the money. Bought a pair of chunky ACCEL runners, ported the hell out of them, and there is no comparison.

Re: ARGH!!!!!!!!!! SLP runners.
The best thing I used was a set of easy outs made by craftsman. Just check em in a drill and start drilling in reverse. Once you get deep enough the bit will grab the bolt and out it goes.

I've used this same method. The stripped opening in the head of the bolt makes for a great pilot hole to center the drill bit. Just work slowly and once the head is gone, the runner should come right off. Also, in my case, once the runner was off I was able to remove the remaining bit of bolt with my fingers.

Try one of these sets of bolt removers, I know both Lowes and O'reilly carry them, lots of others too.

I have them in my toolbox at the shop and they've worked great for me many times.

Re: ARGH!!!!!!!!!! SLP runners.
just find an allen key/socket that is slightly too big, and lightly grind each face on an angle so that the hex tapers down to fit inside the bolt. then hammer that into the bolt the best you can. the taper will wedge the key/socket into the bolt, and the hammering will loosen the bolt, hopefully enough that it will unscrew. If these are the last bolts you have left, put some back in and torque them down so that the bolts have less stress on them. in the future, as a tip, especially with torx/allen bolts, give them a few whacks with a hammer with the socket installed, it helps to loosen them up. very very critical with the torx bolts holding the accessory brackets onto the front of the engine.
