5.7 TPI identification
I've done a bit of searching and couldn't find a condensed version of information applicable to my question. If I missed something that is glaringly obvious, I apologize.
I'm hoping to look at a spare engine as a replacement for my 91Z. Can you guys help me with some quick ways of identifying a 5.7 from a 5.0, MAP vs. MAF? Based on the pictures, it appears to be out of a Camaro by the fuel rail connections and I believe there is a "5.7" cast into the block toward the back. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Re: 5.7 TPI identification
This link should help you out. If you look up the partial vin number (the link will explain) you can figure out the year of the engine then you should be able to tell if its MAP or MAF because I believe they only used MAP on certain years on the TPI

Re: 5.7 TPI identification
Thanks. Your link led me to another, then another, etc. and helped me get info on block casting numbers and partial vins. I understand that MAP's were used in 89(?)-92 with MAF's the preceeding years. Any quick ways of identifying the TPI?

Re: 5.7 TPI identification
If it's a MAP TPI, there will be a cast boss on the passengers side of the plenum near the distributor cover to bolt the MAP sensor to. There is also a vacuum port on the plenum, directly below the rear bolt on the passenger side runners upper flange.

Re: 5.7 TPI identification
you can use a MAP plenum for a MAF car, you just don't install the MAP sensor and cap any unused vac ports
Works in reverse as well but you have to remote mount the MAP sensor somewhere and run a line to the vac port
There are also early (w/ cold start injector ) and late versions of the TPI as well as Vette ( fuel lines go out the front ) and F -Body versions ( fuel lines go out drv side )

Re: 5.7 TPI identification
Thanks for the info. The seller is telling me that he pulled it from a 90 Iroc which would make it a MAP style and a perfect replacement for the one in my car.

Hello Y’all! Thinking about putting this in my 73 nova. Anyone have any idea what it came out of. Is this an L98 350?
