305 5spd, just got home from track need imput!
I have and 88 305 TPI 5speed. 3.42 gears 275/40/17 bfg's... I have good mid-lenght headers an extremely well bent 3inch exhaust.. It has been chipped, msd wires/cap/ rotor..new plugs(one i dropped, causes to mis, and havent fixed yet...tomorrow) ran a best of 15.4 @ 89mph.. does that seem right? I know the plug is affectin it.. my bro has a 94 stang with identical setup and he ran a 14.75 @ 92mph, both ran through the traps in 3rd gear... I know stick cars dont' hook up..least not street ones....imput on this ladies and gents? Just curious what other people have pulled out of their similar setups.

Re: 305 5spd, just got home from track need imput!
If the mods you listed are the only upgrades you've made then..... Yes, 15.4 is pretty much right in line with what I've run with these cars in the past and what many others have run. You can expect +/- a tenth or two depending on weather/wheel spin etc...
The good news is that you can still squeeze a few tenths out of it without getting into porting your heads/runners and so forth. I don't know your level of experience with these cars or drag racing so please don't be insulted if some of the answers seem like obvious suggestions.
1.)Get yourself a couple drag radials or at the very least bleed some air out your rear street tires. Make sure the fronts are not low on air as this causes drag.
2.) Remove the baffles in the front air box and put in some K&N's if you already haven't.
3.) Make sure the engine is as cool as possible before each run. I used to run a jumper wire between two of the contacts( cant remember which) on the ALDL port. This would run the electric fans with the key in the ON position without the engine running. Then I would run the engine for a few seconds to circulate the coolant. Repeat.
4.) Tweak your fuel pressure and bump your timing up just a couple of degrees. Don't go overboard. It will take a little trial and error to find the right combinations. As long as your fuel pressure is 42-45ish you are good.

Re: 305 5spd, just got home from track need imput!
I have been drag racing for around 8 years, but always with my 87 monte carlo, have a tuned port 305 in that as well and have that down to the 13.9's...in street mode(no stickies, full spare, and full tank of gas. I never really launch my camaro on the street...so coming off the tree with that is new. It spun pretty bad. Best run was:
60ft 2.24
330ft 6.45
1/8et 9.91
1/8mph 70.2
1000et 12.88
1000mph 81.23
1/4et 15.40
1/4mph 89.83
Timing is stock. or atleast I've never adjusted it. I do have K&N's in it already, and the stock air box has been opened up alittle. As for fuel pressure, I just bought a fuel pressure tester. still be to get an adjustable fuel regulator. I tried to keep it as cool as possible, I have a 180thermostat. it tried to get near 220. The fans were reset in the chip to come on alot sooner. I don't mind my brothers stang getting me once an a while but over half a second faster in the quarter, I don't think so.

I just ran a 15.2 at 88 mph with a broken trans mount. 2 tenths faster then you with a lower trap speed. A stock 305 tpi 5-speed in stock form should have no problem running a 14.9. Learn how to drive the car and fix the misfire.

misfire is huge. I wouldnt run a car at the track with a misfire. no point really. when i drop a plug i do not install it i garbage can it and get another. my buddy's automatic with headers, 3.27 gears, chip, and AFPR ran a 15.0. your misfire is really hurting you plus the not hooking up.

you can get lakewood lower control arms for like 100 bucks from summit the help alot more then the junks stock ones. from what if learned if you have a sold suspension you can pick up around a second or so... the lowering springs help id say traction bar to would help. the swap bars are mainly for cornering and bodyroll so stock will be fine for the strip.

And with that drop you should get some lower control arm relocation brackets. Check out http://www.foundersperformance.com/ They have relocation brackets for 47 and some non adjustable lcas for 58 or so.
I plan on ordering them in the near future

red/white04, those times are minus your reaction I assume, and that why you didn't include it?

reaction times have no effect on 1/4 mile E.T. he does not need to include those

Re: 305 5spd, just got home from track need imput!
reaction time has alot to do with times the quicker you jump the tree the better time you run. for instance its better to take of faster then to watch the light go green then go. my girlfriend and her father race rail dragsters and thats all the preach about

also what i did was practice my launches 5 speeds are trick. what i did was pick a rev point then found a release point on my clutch where i could have a nice smooth launch instead of dropping the clutch and spinning. also if your car has the borg warner 9 bolt use slicks those rears can take the abuse

The reaction time really just tells me what "driver mod" he has, meaning what kind of driver skill we are talking about, which will certainly affect ET, especially 60ft.

Just got back from the track again after fixing the misfire and vacuum leak. Sorry i didn't really think much of the reaction time. here you are, best run of the day
.378 reaction
2.180 60 ft.
9.114 594 ft.
9.735 1/8et
72.46 1/8mph
15.086 1/4et
80.28 1/4mph
it was pretty dang hot today, the car still spun but i'm getting better at launching it. I got about 10 runs in, and of that 7 of them i had reaction times in the .170's

Much better, you should be able to get a 14.9 out of it.

good job. in the world of drag racing its hard to pic up time and every tenth counts. there is alot of cheap ways to help beef up your suspenion. i went that route first instead of motor cause it can get expensive. with my stock 85 trans am motor a 700r4 with b&m shift kit a borg warner 9 bolt with 373s with lakewood control arms eibach lowering springs and hotchkis tubular panhard and trac bar. i ran a 14.27 and a 1.59 60 ft time with slicks

Re: 305 5spd, just got home from track need imput!
Reaction time does not effect ET at all. Now in proffesional racing it is important why? because its heads up racing. But the time does not keep track until you trigger the beam. Thats your reaction time. You can sit there for 5 seconds after your light goes green. You'd have a 5 second reaction time. But if your can normally runs 11.5's you'd still run an 11.5, but it took you 16.5 to cover the 1/4 mile. It does not effect your ET. Thats why when you watch drag racing and someone loses on a holeshot. It means the person who run actually ran a slower time, but because they left the line first they covered the 1/4 mile faster than the other car who actually ran a better ET.
