Engine struggle to start 305 TPI
Hello guys I'm new here and I write from Italy. I have a problem on my 1985 Iroc and I cannot figure it out.
1- When the engine is cold (after days that I'm not using the car) it starts great.
2- When the engine is hot, and I turn it off for a little time, like a the gas station (5-10 minutes), I start the engine and it starts great.
3- When the engine is hot, and I turn it off for more time, like 30 minutes, 1 hour, when I turn it back on, it keeps 2-3 seconds before it starts, and from the exhaust came out some smoke, and gas smell.
When I said hot I mean not only when I drive it, but when also the temperature is on 160F
I check the ECM and there is not errors. Recently I replace starter and battery.
Any ideas and help is really appreciate!
Alex

Re: Engine struggle to start 305 TPI
Welcome! Sound like your injectors are leaking. Hot starts, leaking injectors, smoke on start up are all signs of bad/going bad injectors. Do a search on leaking injectors on here. There is TONS of info. Are they the original injectors?
There's a vendor on here called Southbay Fuel Injectors, Look him up, but do read the posts on your search.
You will be amazed what you will find!

I agree sounds like injectors...test injectors with OHM meter on terminals of injectors...you want them all above 15 and within .5 of each other...if they check out you might be able to get away with some long runs with fuel additive in tank.
