Tunerpro - Crank - AFR table

Hey everyone,
I have the EBL - Flash on my 89 5.7 TPI IROC.
I emailed Bob and explained how my car doesn't cold start on its own. I have adjusted the throttle screw to achieve 20-25 IAC steps but it still doesn't cold start right. I have to hold the throttle at WOT for it to start then would need to hold the throttle a bit for about 30 seconds. After that it runs great. Bob says the engine could be flooding and holding it at WOT is clear flood mode.

Bob recommended zeroing out my Crank - Prime PW till the problem goes away and/or adding to the Crank - AFR table. I found my Prime PW already zeroed and so now I am wondering what you guys with stock 5.7 TPIs have for the values in the Crank - AFR? I will try posting a pic of my table.

Any help would be appreciated. This is my last issue to having a fully operational IROC tuned with EBL. Other than this issue it runs amazing!

Thank you

Sal

Re: Tunerpro - Crank - AFR table

It started happening when the summer temps went away and in came the fall cold. Around 55 degrees Fahrenheit and colder I can't get a good startup.

Re: Tunerpro - Crank - AFR table

Yeah that table doesnt look good at all. Why is 68 deg 0? 32 shouldnt be less than 20 deg value. You are way to rich down in the cold areas imo. Compare to a stock l98 bin.

Re: Tunerpro - Crank - AFR table

Thank you for your response.

The zero is my fault. I did that playing with the numbers. So this would explain bobs mentioning of being too rich. Do these numbers add to the AFR target or are these numbers the actual AFR number?

Can you tell me what the stock bin numbers are so that I can try it out now? It's cold enough to try. 46 degrees right now.

Re: Tunerpro - Crank - AFR table

I just realized 6E and 8D use crank pulsewidth vs temp. Not gonna work for you.

Perhaps try something like this: make the 68 value a 9. Make 32 a 4.5. Then add 2.5 to the entire table. Try that and see if it gets better. If it does, add more, maybe 1 afr value and try again. If it gets better then move in 0.25-0.5 values. Keep leaning it out

Re: Tunerpro - Crank - AFR table

Ok. I will try this later in the day and tomorrow morning.. Just got to work.

Thanks!

I am assuming these numbers are the actual AFR numbers during cranking right?

What do you think of this Crank - prime PW table?

Yes, those values are used as the commanded AFR for the PW calculation.

Note that if the gas is from warmer weather, it won't light off all that well. As the weather gets colder the blend has more of the volatile compounds to aid in starting the engine.

Thanks Rbob! This makes sense to me now.

Okay,

I went out for lunch to start the car. It's 39 degrees Fahrenheit (3.8 degrees Celsius) out right now but I took notice that the engine's coolant temp sensor was reading 82 degrees (27.7 degrees celsius). This correlated to 6.75 AFR on the table that I adjusted. The car fired right up smoothly.

More important test will be tomorrow morning after sitting over night. Hopefully this will complete my tune once and for all till the engine gets overhauled to 383 or swapped to 406.

Re: Tunerpro - Crank - AFR table

Good morning 3rdgen.org!

The IROC fired up this morning. 41 degrees F (5 degrees C) this morning and for the first time the engine required no assistance from me. Thank you Orr89RocZ for your suggestion and thank you RBob for guiding me to the right table.I will try leaning it .5 at a time till the problem comes back and maybe remove 2 or 3 from there. Then leave it.

Thanks again!

Re: Tunerpro - Crank - AFR table

Just want to say that the IROC has been starting flawlessly this winter ever since the values were adjusted. Thank you so much!
