[SOLVED] Fuel pressure leak + Losing my mind

Hey all,

I recently installed a set of Bosch III injectors from Southbay, as well as their AFPR/Gasket kit. Here are the injectors CLICK.

Did not go as planned, as you may be able to tell form the construction of this thread.

Also for note, I installed a stock throttle body at the same time.

Here is the problem, one of which I just remedied...

My fuel rail will not hold pressure after priming, it goes from 40ish to 5-10 in about 2-3mins.

Secondly, I had a massive vacuum leak from a gasket getting crushed while installing, that has been replaced. Before putting everything back together for yet another test, I'd like to get this fuel pressure issue worked out...

While I have one runner and the plenum off, I am looking for some ideas.

I am not able to hold fuel pressure in the rail, I don't see any physical leaks at all. I've tried replacing the AFPR housing with the stock one and the new diaphragm to no avail. I don't think I really understand the "Seating" issue...

The car held fuel pressure before this swap.

What can I do? I installed the injectors into the manifold first, as instructed, however I did notice they didn't really "seat" as well as the stock ones did, and I didn't want to force them down. They slipped right into the fuel rail as I installed it on top.

What can I look for? What should I do?

I tried doing the return line pinch, and it seemed to hold pressure until releasing clamp.

Is there something with the regulator/diaphragm I am missing?

Also, the fuel pump and filter are both new.

Re: Fuel pressure leak + Losing my mind

I have a TPI swap in my 87 Monte Carlo SS. I have a similar problem. The fuel pressure drops to zero within a few seconds when I turn off the key. I think my problem is associated with the fuel pump. The pump is not stock. I think your problem has something to do with the fuel pressure regulator. You pinched off the return line and the pressure held. Has to be the pressure regulator. When the regulator is closed it should block the fuel returning to the tank.

Re: Fuel pressure leak + Losing my mind

Maybe both regulators are bad? If you pinch the line and just leave it, does it hold indefinitely? If so, your leak must be there.

Re: Fuel pressure leak + Losing my mind

SO, I found this video on youtube
.

It was uploaded a few months ago and he used the same AFPR from Southbay.

Now, not to knock anybody, but he was having the exact same issue I was. Lo and Behold, after he put the stock FPR in, it held pressure again.

I did the same, and voila!

There wasn't anything wrong with my stock one, just figured I'd replace it while doing the injectors. I have maintained the AFPR housing, now have a nice 50psi at WOT, and it holds pressure after the key is off.

Took it for a drive, and it feels great.

Conclusion: Southbay Adjustable Fuel Regulators seem to be defective, and it would be my advice to stay away and save much headache.

Well that's a real nice thing to say.....why didn't you call us? We sell hundreds of these regulators. People on this forum or anyone for that matter need to know that if they feel there is any problem at all with one of our products....we should be notified so we can address the issue instead of telling people to stay away.
It's our product and it's up to us to handle it. If i didn't see this post how the hell would i have known you had a problem.

Re: [SOLVED] Fuel pressure leak + Losing my mind

Your injectors seem to be working great and the adjustable housing is nice enough, but the chances of two random people having the same issue within a few months seems like it should be low. Call me unlucky, however after hours of scratching my head, I really didn't want to wait another day.

I doubt there is anything I could have done on my side to solve this issue, though I'm sure you would have been willing to ship out another.

May others have better luck with your regulator, if I need to replace it in the end, I'll be going AC Delco.

Again, im not knocking your service, you guys are great. This is simply an honest experience, from a guy who is still learning and doesn't like repeating work lol.

The problem is that this is the first time I'm hearing about any of these issues. Believe me I completely understand.......and yes things do happen...but that's why we would like to be notified with any problems whatsoever with any of our products.
Again,, if i didn't see the post i would have never known. Now you're saying that someone else had a problem as well? Didn't know about that one either.
I would at least like to know what kind of problems you guys are experiencing. It may be something that needs to be addressed with my CNC shop....
Saying that are regulators are defective and to stay away is not the kind of communication we're looking for.
Anyway...enough said. Hope everything works out for you

Your products are great and most everyone on Thirdgen.org knows it. As we all know most issues with products are due to improper installation. You can't be there to hold everyone's hands...

I completely understand that, it's not what i am talking about.
All I'm asking is for people to give us a heads up if they have a problem with one of our products so we can deal with it on our end with R&D
