Air cleaner assembly type for 1991 Formula?

So today I’ve got a question about what type of air cleaner assembly to install on my Formula bird. As you can see by the photo, it’s missing the entire thing, it’s just an air filter.

The battery is located on the passenger side, where it looks like in many TPIs the filter would be located. Does anyone know what assembly I should get for my car given this info? (305)

a firebird would have had the battery on the drivers side unless originally a tbi car. Stock intake pictured.

That’s weird. On the driver’s side there is a circular platform which looks like the filter box would be mounted to, which isn’t present on the passenger side. There isn’t a proper battery tray on the driver’s side for me to put the battery either.

Without seeing it up close but based on the conditions I see in your picture, I'm guessing they needed a battery cable and couldn't find long enough one for power all the way for the D/S battery to the P/S under the block to the starter....so they moved the battery. Removed the air filter 'tray' possibly put it on the d/s for keeping, that's why it doesn't look like a battery goes over there. Because they couldn't put the air duct back on, they just stuck the generic air filter to allow the glory of warm air straight to the engine.
Because it's speed density, its pretty easy to make tubing and filter to pull cooler air from wherever you like without needing to worry about a maf sensor. You can find donor stuff or make stuff to put the filter back to the P/S if you like.

After further inspection, you’re absolutely right. The prior owner for whatever reason moved the battery over to the passenger side. The wire connected to the positive terminal leads right over to the driver’s side. What appears to be a vacuum canister is completely disconnected and was just sitting on the driver’s side.

Not to sound mean but there are a lot of "fixes" that a previous owner did that looks like they could use straightening out. Good luck, there's a lot of people here to help.

Re: Air cleaner assembly type for 1991 Formula?

She’s got her problems but I paid for a fixer upper. I’m just dumbfounded that I didn’t notice this crap immediately. I’m definitely new to third gens but I’d figure just by looking at pictures of other people’s car’s I would’ve noticed “one of these things is not like the other” a little earlier.

Plus where’s the fun in buying a car that’s perfect in every way?
