leaking gas cap fix!!!

ok so you are like me and have a leaking gas cap, if your like me and replaced the tank pressure relief valve but you still have a ton of pressure under the cap Or maybe you have a dent, ding whatever in you filler neck and the cap just doesnt seal correctly so you have fumes and/or fuel leaking out of your filler neck (i have this problem) this will fix it.

now heres the problem with the current GM cap, it seals the inner portion of the upper filler neck with a less then sturdy peice of rubber and if the filler neck ends up out of round or is dented it just doesnt seem to seal good enough. i have used several caps that where a surface mount, meaning they only contacted the edge of the neck and applied allot more pressure then my current cap did. so you have 2 choices you can cut a fresh donut in the same size as your cap and replace the stock gasket with a thick rubber flat donut or make 1 from RTV.

i am currently using an RTV 1 since i just did it as a test run, made it last night installed it today. i just went to the gas station and filled the car to the point it overflowed (accident) but my point is it couldnt get any fuller. then i took the car and just slung it around a nice hard corner to see if it would leak. well it didnt nice and dry just the way i wanted it, so it does work i know that since my cap used to leak if the tank was full and i cornered hard. i will test it out for the rest of this week to be sure then make a new gasket out off thick rubber to fit. the current RTV setup has stopped the safety clicking which is just to stop over tightening and since mine is lockable that is useless at the moment too. but i would rather not have gas leaking down my car anymore or a ton of vapors coming from it.
