Now thats about the dumbest question I 've ever seen. No YOU can't change them if you have to ask, but you can hire someone else to. The parts are available, and no you don't need to change the whole rear end. Sorry for the truth.....:lala:

Did you go to some car school to learn what you know or did you learn it all by asking everybody questions? BECAUSE I DIDN'T GO TO NO F*** SCHOOL SO BACK OFF.
By the way thanks for the reply.

Okay, cool your jets, guys.
I'll apologize for Rusty (I've been known to get a little too sarcastic myself).
The best way to do this would be to buy a posi carrier and 3.23 gears. Your '89 is one of those "transition years", meaning it could have one of two kinds of parts in it (axles, in this case), you have to know which you've got in order to get the right posi carrier, and the only way to tell is to take it apart.
What Rusty was trying to say in his not-so-tactful way is that this is a job that requires special tools and a bit of experience to get right. So, your best bet would be to check around for a shop that does gear changes on a regular basis, tell them you want 3.23 gears and a posi, and let them get the parts and do the job.
You can figure on something like $300-$450 for the posi carrier, $180 or so for the gears, about $100 for the "installation parts" like spacers, sleeves, and bearings, and about $150 for labor.

Your best investment would be a whole rear from a junkyard, I could pick one up for well under $200 with a posi and 3.23.
Gears alone would cost more than that.
And if you did the modifications listed in your signature then changing the entire rear would be easily accomplished by you.
