questions about the TH200
just recently i bought a brand new DS. then my tranny started to go. I was wondering if there are any other stronger automatics that are the same length?
I would like to replace the trans without having to buy another DS.
thanks to anyone who can help.

If you're referring to the 200R4 tranny then I have info. The 200R4 was in fact a shorter tailed transmission than the 700R4, therefore you'd need to shorten the driveshaft. Stock for stock, the 1987+ (beefed up in 87) 700R4's are stronger than the 200R4's, although the 200R4's were stronger than the pre 87 700R4's. I also believe that the 200R4 tranny has an overdrive of .60 compared to the 700R4's .70

do have an dimensions of either trans on hand by any chance?
I was refering to the TH200c
just a 3 speed that came in the early thirdgens.
I would LOVE an overdrive, and I was thinking maybe the th200r4's might be the same length since its the same as the 200c except an overdrive gear..
anyone else have any info?
thanks!

200C is not in any way the same as a 200R4. The trans. mount on the 200R4 is 6.75" further to the rear of the car.
A TH350 short tail is dimensionally identical to the 200C and is a direct bolt in to replace a 200C, including the driveshaft.

I have an 82 with a Turbo 350 (was 200C). The mod was done before I bought the car. The mod included some welding on the tail of the transmission to add attach points for the torque arm and the catalytic converter hanger. Also, the detent cable from a Turbo 350 car will be needed. It looks like the transmission mount and driveshaft were unchanged.
The 200C & the 2004R are the same length, but the mounting holes are further back on the 2004R. The 2004R is not weaker than the 700R4, just the other way around. There are many more 9 second 2004R's than 700R4's. All GM turbocharged engines came with the 2004R, not the 700R4. I have been building both units for several years now & the 2004R is quicker, faster, and less troublesome in all our tests. I do not advise you to take out your 700R4 and install a 2004R. If you have a CHOICE as to which one you are going to use/install in a particular vehicle, then the 2004R is the way too go!
