Axle Questions

Got an 89 Formula 305 tbi 700r4 want to know if i have the right axles and carrier in it to purchase an slp posi that they have on the website. gears were upgraded to 3.73s please respond asap

The SLP posi is the carrier, so it doesn't matter what's in there now.

Your car is a 89. So if it has the original rear end in it, you're in the changeover year. So, as has been posted countless times on this board, the only way to know what axles it has is to take it apart and look. There are no codes, no tags, no nothing that you can tell by, just take an axle out and count them. Odds seem to be around 70% that it will be a 26-spline, in which case that posi will not work with them. But you might be one of the lucky ones. Only one way to find out.

Your gears may or may not bolt up to that carrier. Your rear almost certainly came with a 2.73 gear, 2-series, so if those 3.73s are the special ones for 2-series carriers, then they will not work. On the other hand of they got a 3-series carrier to make the swap, or used a spacer instead of the special gears, then it will bolt up. Again, only way to know is to look. This is the exact reason why I always advise people to use a spacer or get another carrier, but not use the special gears.
