RPM Spikes - shifting under heavy throttle

When I really get on it (which, on my L03 RS, isn't much...) the engine somtimes revs really high during shifts, and then it finally "catches" and the rpm's drop back to normal...is this "tranny slippage"? If not, what's going on here? And what do I need to do about this?

Do you feel the transmission being pulled during these high spikes? If not its slipping.

Yes it is. The rpm should not go up when changing to the next gear.

So what physically is happening inside the trans? And what needs to be done? A rebuild or something?
