Motor swap trans question...
I'm not really sure where to put this, so I'll put it in Motor Swap too...
I found a really nice L98 out of a '92 Z......my LO3 is old, tired, and smoky, so I've been looking for something for a while. I'm planning on switching my TBI out for a carb in hopes for better power (and my TBI has seen better days).
I guess my real question is this -- I'm not sure what to think about my transmission (700-R4)....I read in a lingenfelter book that it's electronically controlled (and is actually called the 4L60E, which was supposedly what they called electronically-controlled R4's), but I talked to a guy at this corvette shop that said they started electronically controlling them in 93 or something. So I'm wondering, if I put this L98 in place of my LO3, and get rid of the computer and everything (and put a carb in), will everything be all right (speedometer, kickdown, etc.). I know lockup won't work, but I can just make a switch for that. But will I run into any other problems? I need to know soon because the guy at the junkyard said to let him know today or tomorrow.
Thanks in advance!
