M22 in a third gen?

What all is required to put a Muncie M22 rock crusher tranny into a 3rd gen? I am guessing the driveshaft and cross member are going to need to be fabricated. This is the transmission I'd like to use for a project I am going to start in a few months. the motor is going to be carb'd.

Good luck finding a bell housing and clutch fork.. The bell housing was avaible in 82 only and the clutch fork I think was made for 82 defantly and possibly some of 83.

Its going to be tough finding all the parts. You also need the z-bar setup to connect the clutch. Happy hunting.

from what i understand you can do it will all stock parts from some 82 camaros.....

but like they said, that is going to be pretty hard to find. and if GM even stocks the parts, im sure it will cost a arm, a leg, and your first born child.

there are a lot of better choices than a 30 year old M22 for a thirdgen

This kit is for installing a T-10 or Muncie style four speed transmission into a Third Generation F-Body. The kit includes the transmission crossmember required to install the T-10/Muncie transmission, along with our crossmember mounted adjustable torque arm. The T-10 and Muncie transmissions have no provisions to mount the OEM torque arm onto the transmission tailshaft. Our kit makes the T-10 and Muncie four speed swap an easy bolt right in installation!

I agree with ede. What's so great about an M22?

Been there and done that on my old 83Z. The 82 and 83's had mechanical clutch linkage. You will have to make your own crossmember, lengthen the driveshaft, make a torque arm mount, and cut the shifter hole larger. The tranny sits forward about 3-inches, so the shifter hits the radio almost. I had to heat up and bend a shifter to make it fit. You will also need to get a 10.5 inch 10-spline clutch disc instead of the standard 26 spline.

I wouldn't do it again, but back then, the tremec and 6 speeds swaps werent that plentiful.
