Have 9 bolt-Want 10 bolt!!!

I have a BW 9 bolt with disc brakes and 2.77 gears in my 88 IROC and I am interested in purchasing a 10 bolt with 3.23-3.90 gears. I know the 9 bolt is much stronger but I am not going to build the car and I don't want to pay the money to have gears installed so a 10 bolt will be suffiecient. Is any one interested in trading or purchasing the rear end?

Just so you know, a set of 3.27 gears with a 3 series carrier went for $51 on ebay on Sunday, from a respectable buyer. They're out there, it just takes a little bit of work to find them.

every once in a while a 2.77 rear will come up for sale on the classifieds. i currently know where one is if the fella still has it.
go to a salvage yard that is on line with other yards. they can hook you up with a 4th gen rear , the up side is it will have the PBR brakes if you opt for a disk rear.

I have a 10 bolt out of a V6- (89) worked fine when I took it out. I'd be interested in trading for your 9 bolt. email me at rmrich@bellsouth.net, or call me at 931-486-6014. I'm located in middle Tennessee.

I thought the 10 bolt was supposed to be stonger than the earlier 9 bolts?

nope, 9 bolts have always been stronger than 10 bolts. they are rumored to be strong as or stonger than a dana 44.
i dunno if he has his site in order yet but miles has alot of stuff on his 9 bolt site.

Hmmm...

Hey.

What's the asking price on the nine bolt? I'll roughly double the power on this car so I'm starting to look for a rear end for the ol' gal.

FWIW my Formy has a 3.23 10 bolt, original but with 128K on it (still works fine).

Peace,

K

Edit: What part of Cali?

shop around for one on the third gen boards for what ever ratio then you can build it by calling miles. the started back in 85 and stopped in 89.
theres a fella on the classifieds selling a borg rear. once you get the main housing the rest is just buying the stuff from miles. the borg year to get is the 89 as it came with PBR brakes.

You might want to check into the cost of upgrading the 9 bolt. I hear that they are pricey to upgrade to a larger carrier to run bigger gears.

it is a bit more spendy for borg parts but they hold up far better than a 10 bolt.
be glad miles bought the rights to the borg stuff and hes building and selling the stuff, gear sets were around $400 and the carriers were $1100 thru the dealership!!!
now a carrier last i priced one from him was $445 and a gear set was about $250.
these were 3 series parts prices.

So would I be better off just going to the junk yard and getting the like a 9 bolt 3.42 rearend out of an older 4 cylinder or V6 camaro and replaceing my 10 bolt with that?

If I did get this nine bolt how much would it cost to get posi installed in it?

I'm down in Ventura area, I had new gears put in my ford 9", out of my 75 Camaro, cost $ 280. This was just installation, I don't know who you have up in that area, but here its pricey.

We were talking about installation charges for any type of rear. The 9" I'm reffering to is in my 1975 Camaro. Notice I did not say 9 bolt, I'm talking 9" ford. Doesn't matter what rear you have, its not going to be cheap to have it reworked.
