Your 88 GTA probably has a 9-bolt.
Your bud's 3.73s are probably for a 10-bolt.
But if they're for a 9-bolt (highly unlikely but not impossible), they'd work in your rear end, if you had a 3 series carrier. In that case, you need to talk him out of his 3 series carrier to go in your rear end.

his gears are from a ford. rear axle = 7.5" front axle = dana35
so assuming i have 2.77's (i dont know for sure...no PRO codes and my speedo isnt working) can i use his gears? if not, am i stuck with these 2.77's? im manual now and 2.77's suck

ok here:
actually i dont think this would work anyway...dont i need a 3 series carrier? assuming that i have 2.77's...isnt that a 2 series carrier?
Tell the guys that you know somebody with 3.73 gears out of a ford 7.5" and a Dana35 axle and you want to know if they will fit your axles.

Doesn't matter about the series, Dana rear parts won't go in your Borg-Warner rear end.
But yes, your 2.77s are on a 2-series carrier; and you need a 3 series carrier to install 3 series gears, so even if those gears were out of a Borg-Warner 7.75" rear they wouldn't go into what you've got.

ok, so wha twould you guys suggest?
1. get a junk yard rear-end with the gearing i want.
or
2. should i get a junk yard rear-end with a 3-series carrier and put new gears in?
i dont know if gears go bad after a while or are they just either good or bad? where can i get some decently priced gears?
