700-R4 wiring / gear switch question

Been trying to find info on the 'net but can't. I know the 700-R4 has a 4th gear switch referenceable from a pin externally. Do they come with a 3rd gear switch? Is there a port in the valve body to install a 2nd gear switch as well?

Thanks,

Pretty much every clutch apply circuit has a port you could put a switch on. Knowing which clutches are applied in each gear you could figure out what gear the transmission is in all the time. What are you trying to accomplish?

I'm investigating swapping to the $8F code which uses 2nd-4th gear input signals. In order to change as little of the code as necessary, I'm looking at my options with the trans.

Thanks!

I looked at adding the pressure switches while I had my trans apart. From what I could tell there are pads on the valve body that could be drilled and tapped for the switches. I did figure out which one was for third, can't remember about second.

Also, IIRC, the stock external connector only has 4 pin locations of which 3 are already in use (TCC, +12V, 4th). Don't know if there is another connector that could be substituted.

Have you looked to see what the $8F code uses the trans gear inputs for? It may not be important enough to matter.

RBob.

Not yet. I'm just investigating at this point. I understand that there is a 5-pin connector that may have been used on the transmission which potentially could be substituted.

Thanks for the info.

Some of the later electronic transmissions have connectors with more pins that could maybe be used.
