Changed clutch. New problem.
Okay. I installed a new clutch. Everything seemed to go pretty smooth. I put in a new clutch, pressure plate, pilot and throwout bearing. As always, handled the clutch and pressure plate with care, as not to get any grease or anything on the surfaces. Refilled the tranny with fresh fluid. Driving the car around shifting and everything is fine. The only problem is getting the car going in either first or reverse. The whole car shudders really bad unless I take the rpms up higher and slip the clutch a little more than you normally would. Before I go pulling the tranny back out, I would like to know if any of you might have an idea what the problem may be. Thanks for any input guys.

You didn't say you had the flywheel re-surfaced or replaced. A clutch job isn't complete unless you do that. The new disc can't seat to an unprepared flywheel.

Sorry, I left that part out. The flywheel was resurfaced also. Thanks.

did you clean eeach of the fly wheel and pressure plate off with brake cleaner and wipe it down with a rag so you get your hand oil off of them. cause that will cause it to slip

Yep. Did all that. Used a brand new shop rag. Guess I'll just pull it back out and double check everything. It'll be a couple days before I pull it back down, so if anyone else can think of anything, please chime in. Thanks for everyone's help.

I am also in the middle of a clutch change. I have been checking the Mfg's websights (Ram, Mcleod, Hays, Spec. etc.)for Ideas and tech info and have ran accross info pertaining to clutch disc design and material. It seems that the newer style of clutch disks are being made of a HCF (higher coaficient of friction) material and engages harder and more quickly than the older style clutch disk. Causing clutch chatter when accelerating from a stop at slow speeds and also backing up. I have not read of any way to
combat this except by leaving at a little higher rpm and slipping the clutch more.
