Vrooom.....bam
well, the title about says it. when i step on the gas, then let off semi-quickly, it makes a clunking noise, like something under the car jumped up then dropped. at first i thought it was the sway bar cause one side was missing the bushings, so now that's replaced and it still does it. what is the problem?

If the sound is coming from underneath the shifter,or around that area,then it is the tranny mount. Easy fix

dang, i need to check it tomorrow when i have day light, and does anyone have like a guide to replacing it? i really don't wanna break anything on my tranny or that area.

I'm assuming it's a 700-R4 trans. Jack up the car and put it on stands in the front. Get under the car and unbolt the trans mount. Jack up the trans a bit to get the mount out, put on the new one, drop the trans back down, bolt to torque specs, enjoy.

could be your torque arm bushing, when mine was shot, it made that sound when i got on it and let off to fast... but then again it did that whenever is shifted gears too. but that was on a manual t-5... dont know about 700-r4s..

trans mount ill bet very simple to replace but get the energy suspension poly urethane one youll break rubber ones over and over...jack up the car on stands, than raise your jack to support the trans on the tail shaft or in a sutiable place than unbolt your cross member and your mount, replace mount bolt up cross member if your very lost i have pics for you and a write up i did

would a bad tranny mount also make a sound like the driveshaft is hitting the floorboards...the noise is really close to the middle of the tunnel

more or less its gonna be your trans hitting the trans tunnel....when i broke mine i didnt change it for like 2 weeks and well ill show you pics of my tunnel if i can find it

just drive it softly and you will be fine.
Also, if its the mount on the transmission x-member, I recommend getting a energy suspension poly mount. They have a metal part inside the mount that keeps it from seperating. I replaced mine twice with the stock mount and broke them withing a week, went the the poly one and it works great.

ok, so i gotta get a poly tranny mount, i tried looking some prices up on it, but i can't find squat on tranny mounts, little help on that...

This is such a no-brainer mod/repair/upgrade that it should be manditory for TGO membership. (J/K )
Seriously, this is easy; easier than changing the oil. There's only one GM Rear Drive trans mount for all of the chassis/trannny combos so there's no guess work. Once the car is up on jacks/ramps, this is a 10 minute job at most. Most cases, it's old bolts out, new bolts in, wheels down, you're done. Some people, myself included have found that the new crossmember bolts are larger than the old ones, and have to drill/grind the slot in the crossmember. This should take you about 42 seconds with your Black&Decker to accomplish.

if it was the tranny mount that snapped, shoudlnt the shifter be bouncing up and down? maybe its diff. in an auto, but when i snapped my tranny mount in the summer, the shifter was going all over the place

No, it wouldn't move. It's not a physical portion of the trans like a manual shifter. An auto shifter is connected to the trans via cable.

Trust me, the shifter doesn't move. Like I said before, I've replaced two of them and that's not what happens. And red88fmroula was right on the money on how it sounds. SpeedCat also hit the money on how hard, or how easy I should say this job is. And indeed sometimes the new bolts are bigger, but again, easy fix. Let us know how you fair.

old post but decided to let you guys know the tranny mount was good but there was no bolts holding it in stupid previous owner and the emergency brake cable hanger dropped down and wore a groove in my ds
