Looks like it's time for my famous fork/TOB pics. This REALLY should be a sticky....

Look at these pics. Which way did you put the throwout bearing on the fork?

One way is right. The other way will prevent the clutch from releasing.

I'll give you a hint: the top pic is the wrong way, and will create the failure you are experiencing, EVERY TIME.

No you cannot see it from outside. Remembering would be good right about now.

Car: 86 IROC / 84 TurboZ
Engine: 5.0 TPI / 2.2 turbo
Transmission: T5 / A413
Not trying to steal the thread, but... Thought this might be a valid question.

I've just installed a T5 in place of the 700R4 in my 86 IROC.

I don't remember how I installed the TOB, as far as the "hump" on the bearing is concerned. Does the anti-rotational hump on the TOB go towards the enclosed (towards fork pivot) side of the fork, or does it face the open side of the clutch fork?

Reason I am asking is that my car has a slight vibration that I can feel thru the clutch pedal, and it seems the engine is out of balance (feels like a slight shaking when its revved, very similar to when the harmonic damper let loose in the past.) And now I'm getting some chirping sounds from the TOB area. Kinda off subject, but has anyone had issues with the balance of the pressure plate and/or flywheel?

FYI-- I used a stock 1-piece RMS flywheel from an 88 IROC (LB9) on my 86 LB9. The clutch was used (stock) but looked to be in decent shape. The TOB was also used, but seemed pretty OK as well.

I guess I'll be pullin the tranny this weekend! Sweet. LOL

Did you have the flywheel resurfaced (machined) before you installed it? If not, did you at least check to see if it was flat? Like a brake rotor, a warped flywheel will cause a vibration.
