Just got 1983 Trans Pace car=Problems
Well, I went and picked up the car and started driving home. Got about 5 miles from the house the car made a noise and it wouldn't move. There is no drive gears and no rev. Can the trans just go all the way out at once? Also I put the car in gear and left it run and the drive shaft wasn't moving. It most be the trans, I never heard of it going all the way out at once. It drove fine up until that piont. Also the car sat for 2 years before I got it. Is there maybe something small in the trans that needs replaced?

well, i had a poorly adjusted tv cable & wrong fluid pressures in my tranny, and it would drive fine when cold, but as soon as it warmed up i lost all gears. could still coast, but nothing else. so yes its entirely possible, and while i'm far from an expert on auto trannies, it definitly isnt a good thing(to point out the obvious). it might be your tv cable, it might be something inside the tranny. regardless, there is probably a good chance something inside was hurt by the badness. ill leave any actual diagnosis to someone who actually has knowledge about auto trannies. (and not just limited experiences)

Does the tranny have the propper fluid level...and was anything done to it after sitting two years...or did ya just start it and go...?

I had a tranny do the same thing, no gears at all all of a sudden. Turned out the thing was worn out enough on the inside that when the tranny was cold the next morning, everything worked fine. As soon as the fluid warmed up, Nothing! I changed the fluid and set the tv cable but it didn't help. I tore it apart and the clutch plates were fried in the forward clutch packs really bad and the others about halfway. Hope this helps.

havent torn apart my tranny yet(just got it out yesterday), but i bet it was my clutch packs too. i drove it for a few months on horrible internal fluid pressures before they went out(was just driving til it broke so i could put a manual in, the whole time i was driving i only had 1st and second anyway). you're lookin at a rebuild.
