posi worn out, need advice on rebuild
I thought my posi was in good shape untill recently, it would leave two nice black marks and work fine with my old tires. I have since put some Nitto Drag radials on and now I have a peg legger, Im sure its the added traction the tires gave me. I had it to the track on friday and Id do a small burnout to warm the tires and clean them off and I started noticing the rubber only showing up on the RR quarter so there was my first clue. My question is how hard is it to either rebuild the posi? Ive also been told you can just shim the brake cones in the posi to make it work like a new onewithout new cones, is this true or do I need to do a whole rebuild? Im kinda new to these rears, always delt with the 10 bolts in my old cars, so any help is greatly appriciated.

When I had a simular problem I had broke the spider gear . I bought a new eaton posi . Traction and 7.5 rears don't mix well . Witch rear do you have . I would say pull the cover and see whats going on in thier . Can not help with the rebuild on the carrier . Good luck .

Im pretty sure I have more of a cone adjustment problem or maybe bad cones themselves. I was wondering how you shim them and where to get the shims if thats what it needs. The rear in my car is the Borg Warner 9 bolt posi with 3:27 gears if that helps any.

Thanks, I might need it. I know there are some people on here that know a good bit about them so hopefully they will chime in. Ive looked on 9bolt.com but I cant really see anything about the shim part of things, except how to figure out which ones you need.

I haven't heard to many good thins about 9 bolts. Kind of on there own when needing parts and most of the time the shimming or rebuild don't last long.

They are stronger then that 10 bolts are and honestly after doing some research Ive found that they dont look to hard to work on, kinda built like a 9inch ford rear. I like how it has four spider gears and how the axles dont use the C clips. If nobody chimes in here I think I might get a new set of cones and try that out and see what happens
