TransGo shift kit questions
i just bought a transgo shift kit for my 700r4. i will be pulling the trans out to install the kit and to put a new stall converter in. i was just wondering what kind of problems i might run into or problems that anyone else has run into installing one of these kits.
the kit also says that i can change how hard it will shift by installing more/less washers. i was thinking of installing 3 to get a harder shift. any thoughts?

I got the TransGo kit too, it's the reprogramming kit though. Let me know how your installation goes, I haven't done mine, not enough time, one of these days maybe.

Sorry, but i have to finally as what "ttt" means...I've seen it many times now and I've been trying to guess at its meaning. Any help? And BTW (By the way), you can install the kit without removing the transmission. (3) rings shoudl give you the hardest shift. I hvae (2) rings installed in my transgo, and it shifts pretty firm when manually shifting. I thought about eventually putting in one more spacer/washer to get a little more chirp out of the tires.

thanks for the reply...im pulling the trans out to put the stall converter in and i figured that it would make the whole process a little easier.
and as far as "ttt"
ttt means "to the top"...use ttt if your post is now off the new post listing and you want it...on top

i always thought the transgo kits were pretty straight forward but i have heard of people having problems with them. i can't answer the question about the spacers as i use a super servo instead of the vette servo. one recommendation i have is to read the directions at least twice before you start to make sure you understand it and to take your time and not rush it. also, make sure you get the boost valve all the way back in!!!!!!

ok thanks...i have the trans out right now and im letting it drain out....i can install the kit with the trans upside-down right?

The shift kit wasnt bad at all!! I did it in a weekend. I love the results. The Valve body is pretty heavy and be carful cause there is about 7 i think ***** that come out. The shift kit is pretty forward, its just putting everything back together. You might need a second hand or a spare jack to jack up the valve body. Good luck and post pics if you can.

i've got a b&m shift kit in my 85 iroc and it's not as good as the transgo kit so im sure you'll have a nice ride after u get it in....as far as the washers and all that stuff i'm still learning so i don't know much about it.

stray bolt :(
well i removed the trans and started pulling apart the trans along with degreasing and cleaning the underbody of the car. when i pulled the trans pan off to my suprise, i found a stay bolt laying on the magnetic strip. do you think this missing bolt and picture showing were it went (secondary valve body) could have caused any problems?

well i just finished with the valve body part of the shift kit. it wasnt bad at all. the only issue i had was that the drill bit broke while drilling into the valve body itself. needless to say it wasnt fun because it broke off flush with the valve body itself and required drilling a very small hole on the side of the broken drill bit. the hole now is good to go and check ***** are installed and waiting. ill be working on servo tomorrow. heres just a few pics, and i hope this helps you

I hope your tranny is still out of the car...I had to knock a hole in my floorpan to access the servo =(.
Yeah the job is straight foreward though. Just make sure that you double, triple, quadruple check everything before you put it back in...never fun doing a job twice. However, DONT put as much fluid in as they recommend in the video right away...keep checking your levels as you go. I did what they said and I overfilled =(.
Oh and as for the accumulator washers, I did 2, and I wish I would have put that 3rd one in there. I am really happy with the results, but I would have been happier with a harder shift.
And hey, has anyone else seen gas mileage losses after this install?

Yeah i seen lost of MPG big time. But it could be because off all the redlining I would do in each gear. Love those chirps. Also too i was running pretty rich. Im not sure why??

Whats the difference between the Transgo kit and the Transgo reprogramming kit? I didn't know there was two versions.

no idea...but i have one. i wont be installing it because it goes inside the case when it gets rebuilt i will have it put in

i was talking about the gil younger reprogramming kit that came with the trans go shift kit. it is supposed to be installed inside the transmission behind the pump. the box has a bunch of springs in it that replace the ones in the spring spacer (not sure if its called that but it has a springs all the way around it) the kit i have has 3 different sets of springs in it depending on application. i believe its supposed to hold the gears better after the shift, but i have never claimed to be a trans expert

Just be careful in which spring you use for the 3rd 4th shift. If you use the spring to delay the shift you may not like it. As an example when my trans was rebuilt and the transgo kit installed the 3rd 4th shift was delayed with the stiffer spring. The shift did not happen until 61 mph which I did not like and my mileage dropped from 16 to 10 in town. I prefer a stock setting and if I want to hold it longer I will shift manually. You also will not run into TCC issues with a stock setting. You may also want to consider a Corvette servo. This is a good upgrade and well worth the few bucks.

well at the moment i have the servo out but ran into a problem...i am missing the first spring that you install that rests on the case of the trans...gunna go see if i can buy one at napa or a trans shop

The reprogramming kit also has the option of being installed as a full manual operation. In this mode each gear needs to be individually selected. If the selector is in 3rd, the trans is in 3rd. If the selector is in 2nd, the trans is in 2nd. This is true even at 0 MPH and pulling out.

hey i have a question what trans is a good one the 700r4, 350 turbo or teh 400r. some people say the 700r4 has bad 1 and 2 gear's on it but others say it can hold more power and torq
any comments on a good trans

700 has overdrive and and lower first gear then the others, and built properly it will handle around 700hp (i think)
350's will handle power good and they are easy to work with, along with buying parts for them but i dont think it comes with a lock up
400 are more durable than 350s but eat up more power than a 350
if im wrong correct me on this
the shift kit is installed and ill post this weekend on how it worked here are a few pics have fun

the shift kit is installed and road tested...having an issue with pressure though. in drive at idle it is fine...90lbs...at 1000 rpm its at 150lbs and when o go above 2000 rpm the pressure drops the higer the rpm goes till it just stays at 130ish... any thoughts? i was thinking that maybe the filter is sucking air from the pan...im going to add a bit more fluid tomorrow but im thinking that i might need new pan?

To pull the servo I drop the crossmember and lower the transmission down. Just watch the distributor to firewall clearance. Can also help to loosen the exhaust at the convertor ball joint.
